John Raymond Cole
A memorial service for Sequim resident John Raymond Cole will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Sequim Bible Church, 847 N. Sequim Ave. Mr. Cole died June 22, 2010, at the age of 100.
He was born Jan. 19, 1910, in Cement, Okla., to John and Molly Cole. He married Mary Wood in 1936 and she preceded him in death in 1984. He married Harriett Muriet in 1985 and she preceded him in death in 2001.
He attended Oklahoma A&M for an aeronautical engineering degree. He worked for Ryan Aircraft in San Diego, Calif., and North American Rockwell Aviation and Space in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a chief designer on the first Apollo mission to go to the moon.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ken and Laura Cole of Marysville; daughter Margel Mitchell of California; son-in-law John Silva of Bremerton; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sue Silva in 2004.
Brigitte Samlowski
A private service was held for Sequim resident Brigitte Samlowski, who died June 28, 2010, in Mexico, at the age of 83. She was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Germany, to Frederich and Johanna Hambruch. She married Johann Samlowski on May 21, 1951, in Bingen, Germany. He preceded her in death three years ago.
The Samlowskis were active in the Sequim community with the museum and other organizations. Her lavender wands and shell wreaths appeared at local stores and fairs. She is survived by her daughter Beatrice and son-in-law Four Arrows of Mexico/Vancouver Island.
Ivan E. Batchelor
A memorial service was held for Port Angeles resident Ivan E. Batchelor, who died July 11, 2010, at the age of 94. He was born June 19, 1914, in Manzanola, Colo. Drennan- Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Martha Hollingsworth
No services were reported for Port Angeles resident Martha Hollingsworth, who died July 13, 2010, at the age of 86. She was born April 21, 1924. A full obituary will appear in a later edition. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Gail Wasankari
A memorial service will be held at a later date for Port Angeles resident Gail Wasankari, who died July 11, 2010, at the age of 74. He was born July 14, 1935, in Port Angeles to John and Lydia Mattson Wasankari. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
