Elroy R. Engeling, M.D.
A private service will be held for Sequim resident Elroy R. Engeling, M.D., who died July 18, 2010, at the age of 75.
He was born June 26, 1935, in Pin Oak Township, Ill., to Eldon and Edna Flath Engeling.
He attended the University of Illinois from 1953-1957 and the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1957-1961. He served internships at Los Angeles County Hospital through USC Medical Center and Sepulveda V.A. Hospital through UCLA. He was a physician of internal medicine and gastroenterology, mostly in the San Fernando Valley in California where he had a private practice. He married Paula Hauck in 1992 in Las Vegas, Nev.
He is survived by his wife; a sister Dorothy Ohm of Edwardsville, Ill.; sister-in-law Leona Engeling of Maryville, Ill.; four nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Engeling.

Conor Reid Smith
Conor Reid Smith, was stillborn on July 20, 2010, in Port Angeles. His parents are Jason M. and Alicia Louise (Pace) Smith of Port Angeles. A private family service will be held. Arrangements are by Drennan & Ford Funeral Home.
James William Dawes
Sequim resident James William Dawes died July 19, 2010, at the age of 95.
He was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Superior, Wis., to William P. and Bessie F. Hollenbeck Dawes.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Bertha Edith Gilman
No service was reported for Sequim resident Bertha Edith Gilman, who died July 22, 2010, at the age of 91.
She was born Oct. 19, 1918.
Doris Jean Haas
A service and obituary information will be reported at a later date for Sequim resident Doris Jean Haas, who died July 23, 2010, at the age of 86.
She was born April 1, 1924, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Ralph William and Anna Mathilda Poulsen Markley.

Susan Lynn Erickson Blair Pierce
A memorial service for Sequim/Casa Grande, Ariz., resident Susan Lynn Erickson Blair Pierce will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at 1207 68th Loop SE, Auburn. Ron Emmons will speak at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Pierce died July 16, 2010, of breast cancer.
She was born in Yakima to Al and Margo Erickson, the youngest of four girls.
Her father was a world-class horse trainer and she became an expert rider and participated in most aspects of horse competition as she was growing up.
She graduated from Naches High School in 1967 after attending school in Lake Stevens for a short time.
She was employed at Yakima Oral Surgery for more than 20 years.
She was married to Nick Blair of Yakima for 27 years; they lived in Yakima and Selah. She married Dick Pierce in 2000 and they lived in Sequim and Casa Grande, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Pierce; son Robert Blair; daughter-in-law Alvina Blair; and two grandchildren.

Eldon W. Benham
Eldon W. Benham a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon passed away Thursday July 22, 2010 at the family home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 8, 1925 in Mount Vernon, the son of Mervin and Joy Benham. Eldon married Sybil Dexter of Vancouver, BC on June 1, 1963 in Mount Vernon. Survivors include his wife Sybil Benham, son Stephen Benham and wife Tarra, son Jeff Benham, sister Donna Crawford and her son Michael Crawford, Four granddaughters Tianna, Megan, Camryn and Lauren Benham, brother in-law Nigel and his wife Helen Dexter and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Wilson Crawford.
Eldon Graduated from Sedro Woolley High School with the class of 1943. He was engaged in dairy farming with his father at the family farm until joining the department of agriculture as a federal milk tester where he retired after 20 years. Eldon then proceeded to start Cascade Surge in Lynden with partner Glen Huleatt until selling the business in 1990. After retiring for the second time Eldon started Three Valley Outfitters running that business along with returning to the farm to raise cattle and hay, until his passing.
Eldon was a member of the Elks Club, Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and the Washington Cattlemen's Association. He loved the outdoors, fishing at his favorite getaway - Big Bar lake, golfing, traveling, spending time at his son's property in Omak and his time on the farm with his cattle.

Funeral Services were Tuesday July 27, 2010 at Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.
