Ernest LeRoy McAdow
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the American Legion Hall, 107 E. Prairie St., Sequim, for Sequim resident Ernest LeRoy McAdow.
Mr. McAdow died July 30, 2010, at the age of 72. He was born July 1, 1938, in Sterling, Colo., to Floyd and Pauline Kerr McAdow.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
MayBelle Crocker
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Suncrest Village Retirement Center, 251 S. Fifth Ave., Sequim, for Sequim resident MayBelle Crocker, who died Aug. 6, 2010, at the age of 90.
She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Walla Walla to Calvin Henry and Clara Sprague O'Malley.
At the age of 3, her parents divorced and her mother moved to Sequim to live with her parents, the Ernest Spragues.
In 1924, her mother married William Carl Rhodefer.
Around 1938, she went to work as a housekeeper in Washington Harbor, a job she held with other families in Sequim and Port Angeles.
She married Carl G. Bolling in 1940.
In the late 1960s, Mr. Bolling became ill with tuberculosis, and Mrs. Bolling went back to work. He preceded her in death in 1974.
She married Claude Crocker in 1979 and retired at age 62. The Crockers spent many years traveling and camping around the West, staying at the Salton Sea in California in the winters and at West Twin in the summers.
Around 2000, they moved back to Sequim to be closer to family. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Mrs. Crocker is survived by her brother, Sam C. Rhodefer; sister, Wilma Johnson (Dan); stepson Earl Stanton of Lewiston, Idaho; stepdaughters and sons-in-law Bonny and Steve of Forks; Minnie Deese of Tumwater; Marie and Mel Block and Irene and Ron Miller of Kamiah, Idaho, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Ernest "Bus" Rhodefer.
Helen Smith
Per her request, no service will be held for former Sequim resident Helen Smith, who died July 31, 2010, at the age of 87.
She was born May 22, 1923, in Elgin, Ore., to James and Ada Hazelwood Hallgarth.
She graduated from Elgin HIgh School in 1941.
She married Clinton Smith on Aug. 30, 1941, in Wiesen, Idaho. She worked at Kahn's Men's Store. She moved to Sequim in 1981, where she lived for 20 years. After her husband's death in 1992, she began volunteer work in the dialysis clinic at Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles. She moved to Port Orchard in 2001.
She is survived by her children Douglas and Lois Smith of Bullhead City, Ariz.; Donald and Lorna Smith of Port Orchard; Gayle and Anthony Sindelir of Las Vegas, Nev.; Patricia and Frank Banks of Puyallup; Carolyn and Granville Wake of North Bend; Kathleen and Joseph Feldmeth of Ellensburg; Ronald Smith of the Philippines; Deborah Saylor of Brown's Valley, Calif.;and Kim Smith of Bremerton; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Patricia Garner
No service was reported for former Sequim resident Patricia Garner, who died July 2, 2010, at the age of 76 of pancreatic cancer.
She was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Duluth, Minn., to Ted and Louisa Trudel.
Raised in the Sequim Valley, she was a beautician, seamstress and homemaker.
She married Charles Garner on Oct. 3, 1953, in Redmond. She worked for J.C. Penney for 30 years, in Port Angeles and Tulsa, Okla. She returned from Oklahoma for every class reunion.
She is survived by her husband; daughters and son-in-law Kathy and Mark Wells and Priscilla Garner of Tulsa; brother Charles Trudel of
Sequim; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Moe of Port Angeles.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather Herbert Lehman and brother John Trudel.
Esther Veltkamp
A celebration of life was held for Sequim resident Esther Veltkamp, who died Aug. 4, 2010, at the age of 73.
She was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Clymer, Pa., to Floyd and Olive Oliver Bragg.
She was married to Robert Veltkamp for 50 years. Mrs. Veltkamp was past president of the Port Angeles Board of Realtors and past executive director of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Veltkamp; five sons, five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Jeanette Agnes Dick
A prayer service was held for Sequim resident Jeanette Agnes Dick, who died Aug. 4, 2010, at the age of 75.
She was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Tulalip to Dewey and Winifred Fryberg Mitchell.
She grew up in Swinomish/La Conner and moved to Sequim after marrying Donald R. Dick on Oct. 26, 1957. She worked as a housekeeper for 30 years.
She is survived by her daughters Charlene Dick and Denise Lacross of Sequim; brother Raymond Mitchell of Swinomish; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Dick Sr., and son Donald R. Dick Jr.
Jimmie J. Gill
A memorial service for Sequim resident, JIMMIE J. GILL will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, August 22 at Dungeness Meadows Clubhouse,
Sequim. A potluck lunch will follow.
Mr. Gill died at home on July 28 at age 80. He was the youngest of three children born to Chris and Thelma Gill in Monticello, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1948 and served six years in the US Navy earning the rank of Aviation Tech I.
After discharge, he obtained a position with the US Weather Bureau (NOAA). His first assignment was Tatoosh Island, WA where he served two years after which he was transferred by NOAA to Tucson, Arizona where he worked and resided for many years. In Tucson he married Margaret Louise Ray and they had two children, Susan and David. Margaret died in 1983 and Mr. Gill moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he met and married Doris Brown in 1986. Upon retirement, they moved to Sequim where they resided for twenty years.
The Gills have traveled extensively throughout the United States. Mr. Gill achieved a childhood dream by teaching himself to play the keyboard. He also enjoyed participating in discussion groups and was particularly interested in scientific matters and current events.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Gill of Sequim, his sister, Buirl Thomsen of Manchester, Iowa, his daughter, Susan Pettersen of Fort Ann, New York, his son David Gill of Mesa, Arizona, stepson, Scott Brown of Phoenix, Arizona, stepdaughter, Holly Christian of Buena Vista, Colorado, stepdaughter, Christina Detra of Sequim, and granddaughter Hannah Gill of Surprise, Arizona. In Sequim and Port
Angeles, he was surrounded by eight nieces and
nephews and their families as well.
He was a happy man and much loved.
Doris Jean Haas
Doris Jean Haas, 86, of Sequim, passed away on July 23, 2010. Doris was born on April 1, 1924 to Ralph William and Anna Matilda (Poulsen) Markley in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She married the love of her life, Richard F. Haas, on March 10, 1946 in Inglewood, California.
Doris worked as a bank clerk in Inglewood and Paradise, California. Also during her time in Inglewood, she worked in grade school cafeterias and in the flight kitchen for Continental Airlines.
Doris loved all dancing, but particularly square dancing. She and her husband belonged to the Yoke and Yokels and the Whirling Rainbows Square Dance Clubs in Southern California and to the Strait Wheelers and Rhody-Os clubs in Washington. She also enjoyed doing arts and crafts, and camping; but her passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who called her "Oma." Oma can best be described by the quote: "Grandmas are just antique little girls."
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim, Gardiner Grange and Ladies of Elks, where she was instrumental in getting the Sequim Elks Lodge built through monthly fundraisers. Doris was granted a lifetime membership in Hudnall Elementary School PTA in Inglewood.
Doris was known for her ever-positive attitude and was always ready with a smile and a hug!
Doris is survived by her husband, Richard; sons and daughters-in law, Richard Jr. and Debbie of Coronado, California, and Donald and Patty of Port Angeles; sister and brother-in law, Helen and Ali Shahwan; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 382 W. Cedar St., Sequim, on August 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., with a reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Steve Eaton will officiate. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.

Marilyn Mae Hageman
Early on the morning of August 3rd, in her home at Fellowship Square in Mesa Arizona - Marilyn Mae Hageman, 81, quietly passed from the presence of her daughters into the arms of her Lord. She was the kindest and sweetest woman. She loved art, dancing, laughter, worship, family, friends, sunshine, warm weather and the ocean.
Marilyn was born on October 6th, 1928 in Duluth, Minnesota. Her recent history included more than ten years in Sequim where she was a gifted, talented painter with oils. She was part of the Monday morning "Creative Art Group" led by Richard Bennett. She attended Bethany Pentecostal Church and had a multitude of friends. Marilyn moved to Arizona in November of 2009, where she enjoyed the warm sunshine and the closeness of family.
She passed on of a lingering stomach ailment and was preceded in death by husband, Ken; brother, LeRoy; and sisters, Dorothy and Joyce. Those to survive her include daughters, Deb and Kerry of Arizona, and Roxy of Florida; sisters and brothers, Janine, Bev, Patrick, and Mike of Minnesota, and Kathleen of California; an ocean of friends and her special dog Cricket.
A memorial service will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota in September. Also, a small memorial gathering and potluck is being planned at the home of Kathleen Sedin on Monday, August 23rd. If you would like to attend please call 683-2723.
WILLIAM M. STRICKLAND
William (Bill) M. Strickland of Mesa, Arizona took his mothers hand in Heaven on 7/19/2010. He was at home surrounded by family and friends when he passed away. He was born in Port Angeles, Washington on 9/23/1939 to Earl and Bessie Strickland. He was a graduate of Sequim High School, class of 1957. He joined the Navy in January 1958, was stationed on Midway Island for a year, and completed his military service in June 1962. He lived in California for approximately 15 years, where he became a licensed barber and remained a barber for over 40 years. He co-owned Snippers and then Salon 80 in the Tukwila area of Washington for many years. He also worked at Boeing, in both the Renton and Auburn plants for over 10 years. He retired and moved to Arizona 4 years ago with his wife, Patty.
He and Patty were soulmates from the start and remained partners for life. They met on a blind date 20 years ago. They just celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in May of this year. Besides his wife, he leaves behind to mourn his passing, his stepdaughter, Shannon (Christopher) Broderson, who moved to Arizona to help care for him earlier this year; his son, Chris Strickland of Washington; and his daughter, Theresa (Jim) Finefrock, of Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren Alicia, Sarah, Nicole, Jimmy and Cody; and two great-grandchildren, along with his sister, Shirley (Dwaine) Urquhart and other immediate family members. His dog, Sasha, was with her daddy until he passed. He is preceded in death by both his parents Earl and Bessie, his oldest son, William (Billy) Jr. and his brother, Gene.
No services at this time. Memorial services to be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington state.
I promised him I would take him home and that is what I will do. My love to Bill and Debbie Toepfer who caught the first flight out of Seattle to be here with Bill. Bill T. made plans with Bill for the next golf game together. To my niece, Corrie Urquhart, for stopping her life for me; Alicia and Sean for arriving sooner rather than later; and my brother, Thomas Thorsby, for his love and support in the days following Bill's passing. And last but not least, daughter Shannon, who gave him such unconditional love, especially during the past several months. I could not have managed without you. Special thanks to Desert Oasis Hospice of 20815 N. 25th Place #A106, Phoenix, AZ 85050 who helped me with Bill's care during the last two months. Without their compassion and expert help, I would not have been able to keep him home with me.

On Monday, August 2, 2010 she completed one journey and started another, going home to be with the one who loves her most.
Born in Elma, WA in 1930 to Viola Palmer and Franklin M. Sellers, she graduated from Sequim High School class of 1948. She married Thomas Jenkins and had three sons. When he passed she married Edward C. Wilson and had two children.
She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, dancing, good friends and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1975 she went to Peninsula College to earn her degree in Accounting. She worked for Budget Rent A Car for 4 years. She then went to work for AAA of Washington which she retired from in 1996. She moved to Arkansas to be near family and returned home to Sequim in 2002 and has lived here since.
She is survived by her children Thomas L. Jenkins, Long Beach, CA, Myrl Frank Jenkins, Houston TX, James E. Jenkins, Fort Smith, AR, Edward "Eddie" C. Wilson Jr., Sequim WA; daughter Delores V. Cline, Oak Harbor, WA; brothers Al Culdice, Duvall WA, Lee Culdice, Lakeside, MT; sister Franicis Lawarance, Port Angeles, WA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, 16 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Olympic Medical Center, Dr. James Flowers and staff; Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Clinic Galon Rehab in Renton, Martha and Mary Rehab in Poulsbo, Avamere Olympic Rehab of Sequim and Assured Hospice of Washington.

He co-owned Snippers and then Salon 80 in the Tukwila area of Washington for many years. He also worked at Boeing, in both the Renton and Auburn plants for over 10 years. He retired and moved to Arizona 4 years ago with his wife, Patty.
He and Patty were soulmates from the start and remained partners for life. They met on a blind date 20 years ago. They just celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in May of this year. Besides his wife, he leaves behind to mourn his passing, his stepdaughter, Shannon (Christopher) Broderson, who moved to Arizona to help care for him earlier this year; his son, Chris Strickland of Washington; and his daughter, Theresa (Jim) Finefrock, of Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren Alicia, Sarah, Nicole, Jimmy and Cody; and two great-grandchildren, along with his sister, Shirley (Dwaine) Urquhart and other immediate family members. His dog, Sasha, was with her daddy until he passed. He is preceded in death by both his parents Earl and Bessie, his oldest son, William (Billy) Jr. and his brother, Gene.
No services at this time. Memorial services to be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington state.
I promised him I would take him home and that is what I will do. My love to Bill and Debbie Toepfer who caught the first flight out of Seattle to be here with Bill. Bill T. made plans with Bill for the next golf game together. To my niece, Corrie Urquhart, for stopping her life for me; Alicia and Sean for arriving sooner rather than later; and my brother, Thomas Thorsby, for his love and support in the days following Bill's passing. And last but not least, daughter Shannon, who gave him such unconditional love, especially during the past several months. I could not have managed without you. Special thanks to Desert Oasis Hospice of 20815 N. 25th Place #A106, Phoenix, AZ 85050 who helped me with Bill's care during the last two months. Without their compassion and expert help, I would not have been able to keep him home with me.

On Monday, August 2, 2010 she completed one journey and started another, going home to be with the one who loves her most.
Born in Elma, WA in 1930 to Viola Palmer and Franklin M. Sellers, she graduated from Sequim High School class of 1948. She married Thomas Jenkins and had three sons. When he passed she married Edward C. Wilson and had two children.
She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, dancing, good friends and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1975 she went to Peninsula College to earn her degree in Accounting. She worked for Budget Rent A Car for 4 years. She then went to work for AAA of Washington which she retired from in 1996. She moved to Arkansas to be near family and returned home to Sequim in 2002 and has lived here since.
She is survived by her children Thomas L. Jenkins, Long Beach, CA, Myrl Frank Jenkins, Houston TX, James E. Jenkins, Fort Smith, AR, Edward "Eddie" C. Wilson Jr., Sequim WA; daughter Delores V. Cline, Oak Harbor, WA; brothers Al Culdice, Duvall WA, Lee Culdice, Lakeside, MT; sister Franicis Lawarance, Port Angeles, WA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, 16 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Olympic Medical Center, Dr. James Flowers and staff; Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Clinic Galon Rehab in Renton, Martha and Mary Rehab in Poulsbo, Avamere Olympic Rehab of Sequim and Assured Hospice of Washington.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
