Floyd Matthews
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, for Port Angeles resident Floyd Matthews.
Mr. Matthews died Aug. 21, 2010, at the age of 83.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1926 in Port Angeles to Argalus Harmon and Florence Campbell Matthews.
Andrew Lewis Loehr
A funeral Mass for Andrew Lewis Loehr will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph's Church in Sequim, with a celebration of life on Sunday, Sept. 5.
He died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at 94. He was born July 16, 1916.
His full obituary will be published at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to Sequim Sunrise Rotary (Shelter Box fund) P.O. Box 1521, Sequim, WA 98382.
ROBERT (BOB) L. CHARTERS
We lost a great soul and a brilliant mind in the passing of Robert L Charters (Bob) on August 15th, 2010. Husband of Patricia (Pat) Charters; father of Bill, Robin, Jean (Ream), John, and Chris; and survived by 14 grandchildren and sister Jean (Van Hoomissen) Portland, OR.
Bob was an Engineering graduate of Notre Dame and obtained a Master's degree from Seattle University (EE), a veteran of the U. S. Navy (Korean War), and retired Boeing Aerospace Engineer. He built commercial fishing vessels and raised cattle on an Enumclaw ranch. In his volunteer work, Bob developed youth soccer leagues in both Bellevue and Enumclaw, and later was instrumental in the Friday Harbor and Sequim Food Banks, participating as a board member. He was an active member of the 8455 Sequim Council Knights of Columbus, and the VFW Post 6787 in Carlsborg, WA, serving vets from Iraq and Afghanistan introducing them to fly-fishing through Project Healing Waters.
Bob loved the great outdoors, hiking, fishing, skiing, hunting and sailing, instilling the same love in his children and grandchildren, Bob will be truly missed.
A mass will be held in Robert's honor in Sequim, at noon on September 11, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 121 East Maple Street, Sequim, followed by a gravesite ceremony at Dungeness Cemetery (next to the Olympic Game Farm on Lotzgesell Road), and Life Celebration at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim.

CHARLES (CHARLIE) W. FRATES
December 6,1932-August 17, 2010
Charles (Charlie) W. Frates entered into eternal rest at his home in Sequim, WA after valiantly enduring several long-term illnesses. After surviving a sudden death episode thirteen years ago, his family is comforted having had him these extra years.
He was born in New Bedford, MA to Alfred M. Frates and Helen M. Grew who had six children, Alfred, Jr., Phyllis, Bernice, Charles, and twins, Larry and Lucille, all of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Renate, who he married in September of 1968, three children: Karen (Jack) Zeivel of Sammamish,WA, Darlene (Ron) Rogers Brooks and Mark W. Frates, both of California. His oldest daughter Linda is pre-deceased. He also has ten grandchildren: Richard, Tina, Eric, Tamara, Sarah, Jason, Charles II, Kayla, Amber and Donavon. He was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Echo, Mea, Cecile, Nya, Elizabeth, William and McKenzie.
Charlie moved to San Jose, CA with his family in 1947. After his schooling he did radio and TV repair. He married Lucille B. Evans in 1951, which later ended in divorce. He had joined the US Navy Reserves and was called from inactive duty on December 11, 1951. He attended the US Naval Security Station in Washington D.C., Communications TECH School in San Diego, CA and then served in Guam, copying code, during the Korean War.
He joined the San Jose Fire Dept. in 1955 and retired with a service connected disability in 1982. Most of his years of service were spent at the San Jose Airport. He also worked second jobs on his days off the early years and later enjoyed commercial fishing with his boat out of Santa Cruz, CA, on his days off, which ended with his disability retirement. During these years he also enjoyed hunting, sport fishing, off-road motorcycle riding, skin diving, upland game hunting with his dogs, and traveling.
He moved to Sequim in 1989, as he has always loved the mountains and the sea. He made many new friends and associations. He was currently a member of BPOE #2642, American Legion Post 462, lnternational Footprint Assoc. Chapter 74, Olympic Peninsula Assoc. of Retired Police and Firefighters and the Peninsula Long Rifles.
Charlie was a terrific husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a good friend to many. He will be missed by many both here and in California. At his request, there will not be a funeral. There will be a private family gathering at a later time.
