Peter W. Adolphsen
A memorial service for Port Angeles resident Peter W. Adolphsen will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Harper Ridgeview, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The Rev. Ted Mattie is the officiant. An open house follows the service.
Mr. Adolphsen died Oct. 9, 2010, at the age of 80.
He was born July 2, 1930, in Centralia, to Martin and Elsie Brant Adolphsen.
He moved to the area in 1936 and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles.
He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952.
He married Verna Heller on Sept. 19, 1953, in Port Angeles.
A jack of all trades, he started at Nailor Lumber Co. and became a contractor. He then started farming. He retired from the Clallam Co-op.
An avid reader, he would read anything, especially history. He enjoyed woodworking, loved the land and kept weather records since 1981.
He was a member of the Helpful Neighbors Club and Agnew Irrigation District and was a volunteer firefighter.
Mr. Adolphsen is survived by his wife, Verna; sons and daughters-in-law Keith and Sharon Adolphsen of West Richland; Gene and Shirley Adolphsen and Eric and Karalynn Adolphsen, all of Sequim; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Randy Frick of Port Angeles; brothers and sisters-in-law Glenn and Marilyn Adolphsen and David and Mary Adolphsen of Port Angeles; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
Verne H. Pettett
No service was reported for Dungeness resident Verne H. Pettett, who died Sept. 22, 2010, at the age of 77.
The family is planning a memorial service at a later date.
He was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Port Angeles to Harvey and Tessie Pettett and graduated from the old Dungeness School.
He achieved the rank of corporal in the United States Army during World War II.
He was married to Muriel Hawley-Pettett for more than 40 years. She preceded him in death.
He worked for several years at Lawrence "Humpy" Kettel's service station as an auto mechanic. He then worked for the Clallam County Road Department for 16 years and also ran an auto repair business at home.
Mr. Pettett enjoyed taking his dog Rowdy for rides to Port Williams and having coffee with friends at the Mariners Cafe.
He is survived by his son Dawayne T. Pettett; daughter-in-law Amy Kruyt-Pettett; and three grandchildren.
Lynn Roy Throop
A memorial service for Port Angeles resident Lynn Roy Throop will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Mr. Throop died Oct. 11, 2010, at the age of 53.
He was born July 8, 1957, in The Dalles, Ore.
Shirley Jean Wessel
No public services are scheduled at the request of Sequim resident Shirley Jean Wessel, who died Oct. 9, 2010, at the age of 72 of heart-related issues.
She was born June 6, 1938, in Sumas.
She married Larry C. Wessel on Sept. 25, 1954.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry Wessel; children Darren Wessel of Port Angeles; Doug Wessel, Kari Gagner, Kelly Biles, Dustin Wessel, Kristin Wessel and Dalen Wessel, all of Sequim; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Harriet Ann DePoe
Private family services will be held for Port Angeles resident Harriet Ann DePoe, who died Oct. 17, 2010, at the age of 85.
She was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Fonda, Iowa, to Roy and Lena Adamire Meech.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
