Odolite 'Oda' Evonne Dammeier

A memorial service for Sequim resident Odolite "Oda" Evonne Dammeier will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

Mrs. Dammeier died Nov. 6, 2010, at the age of 93.

She was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Walla Walla to Rolla and Margaret Phillips Tharp.

In Tacoma, she met Bill Dammeier. They married on July 3, 1947.

She worked at drug store fountains and did office work in Tacoma, Seattle and Ketchikan, Alaska. They also lived in Bountiful, Utah, where she worked in a medical clinic for 13 years before retiring to Sequim.

In Bountiful, she played the organ at the Episcopal church, was worthy matron of Eastern Star and president of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter W.

In Sequim, she was active at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and sang in the choir.

She also held offices in P.E.O. Chapter FY and Rhododendron Grange.

She is survived by many nephews and nieces.

Her husband and sister Joy Edna Deakes preceded her in death.

Frank Muis Monninger

A private service will be held for Sequim resident Frank Muis Monninger, who died Nov. 6, 2010, at the age of 86.

He was born Aug. 9, 1924, in Provo, Utah, to Victor and Mary Anderson Monninger.

He grew up in Berkeley, Calif., and moved to Denver, Colo., with his family, where he graduated from East Denver High School. He completed one year at the Colorado School of Mines before he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He flew 30 missions as a navigator/bombardier in a B-17 with the 8th Air Force stationed in England. Experimental flights put him in France on VE Day.

He married Trella Katherine "Pat" Rhea on Feb. 1, 1946.

After his discharge, he returned to Colorado School of Mines, graduating with a professional degree in metallurgical engineering. He also had an honorary degree in metallurgical engineering from Montana Tech.

He worked in the mining industry his entire career, including five years in Chuquicamata, Chile. After retirement, he worked as a consultant.

He loved to fish, golf and create jewelry.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Lisa Monninger; daughter and son-in-law Katherine and Terry Springman; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Pearl Smathers

A private service will be held for Sequim resident Evelyn Pearl Smathers, who died Nov. 12, 2010, at the age of 91. She also lived in Gardiner.

She was born May 6, 1919, in Paducah, Ky., to Benjamin and Cecelia Gross Gerber.

She married Lt. Col. Don L. Smathers on April 8, 1961, in Fort Ord, Calif. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1998.

She worked for the Army as a civilian secretary, then joined as a first lieutenant.

She retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Mrs. Smathers was of the Jewish faith.

She is survived by her sister Sally Nofziger of Hillsboro, Ore., and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Elsie and Shirleen.

Leo 'Lee' Rabin

Sequim resident Leo "Lee" Rabin died Nov. 8, 2010, at the age of 87.

He was born March 29, 1923, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
