Theodore Irving Shaughnessy
A memorial service for Sequim resident Theodore Irving Shaughnessy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, 108 W. Alder St., Sequim.
Mr. Shaughnessy died Dec. 20, 2010, at the age of 62.
He was born Nov. 27, 1948, in Port Angeles to Theodore William and Beulah Sampair Shaughnessy. Raised on the Olympic Peninsula, he spent some time in the Edmonds area. He graduated from Sequim High School in 1968.
He married Carrie Jo Taggart on Sept. 25, 1972, in Sequim. They were divorced.
He worked in retail maintenance. He liked to fish and hunt and was an avid collector of small cars, which he hand-painted.
He is survived by his son Tyler Davis of Georgia; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Phyllis Shaughnessy of Copalis Beach; sisters and brother-in-law Nita Tucker of Auburn and Crystal and Richard Parker of Sequim; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by brothers Neil Shaughnessy, Ben Hatton and Larry Shaughnessy.
Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.


Jean Shirley Dunn
A family celebration of life for former Sequim resident Jean Shirley Dunn will be held at a later date in California.
Mrs. Dunn died Dec. 19, 2010, in Modesto, Calif., at the age of 82.
She was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Saugus, Mass., to Harry Waldo and Elsie Naas Gibson. She graduated from high school at the Westford Academy in 1945 in Westford, Mass.
Her marriage to Robert Hall Perrins in 1945 ended in divorce in 1965. He preceded her in death. She married Elmer Eckles Dunn in California in 1966.
In 1965, she graduated from San Jose California School of Vocational Nursing. She was employed at Los Gatos Community Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital before moving to Sequim in 1968. She and her husband owned and operated Elmer Dunn’s Land Surveying and Bookkeeping. They moved to Modesto in 2002.
She was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and children’s leader in Bible study fellowship and pursued many years of Bible study in Sequim.
She enjoyed lap swimming at the Sequim Aquatic Center.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer Dunn of Modesto; son Robert Perrins Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; daughters Deborah Jean of Grass Valley, Calif.; Judith Coleman of Sacramento, Calif.; Donna Cummins of Sequim; Charla Jensen of Red Bluff, Calif.; and Stefanie Ostlind of Modesto; sister Winona Gibson Cole of Fullerton, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Darold M. Bullock
Port Angeles resident Darold M. Bullock, died Dec. 27, 2010, at the age of 48.
He was born Dec. 12, 1962, in Port Angeles to Harold and Audrey Short Bullock.

Janice L. Conley
Janice L. Conley, passed away December 14th, 2010. Janice was born to Basil and
Nellie Lambert on October 22, 1937 in Garrison,
Kentucky.  In 1954 she graduated from Glenwood High school in New Boston Ohio. Upon graduation Janice enlisted in the Marine Corps where she served from 1955-1964.
During her service years she met and married Gunney Sgt. Glen Conley. They married in January of 1963 in Beaver, Washington. Following her military service Glen and Janice settled in Sequim, Wash., where Janice became employed for a number of years with the Sequim Press. She later obtained her realtor license and worked for Coldwell Banker for 20 years until retirement.
Janice is survived by her husband of 47 years Glen Conley, her son Douglass Conley of Sequim and daughter Janell Conley of Sequim. She is also survived by two grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Janice is also survived by sister Mary Logan of Mansfield, Ohio.

 

E.J.‚“Bud” McCall
February 13, 1923 ~ December 14, 2010
E.J. (Bud) McCall, age 87, passed away quietly at home while surrounded by his family. The cause of death was cancer. Bud accomplished this feat with the same dignity, quiet determination and humor that he had shown in all of his lifetime accomplishments.
He will be greatly missed by his family, many, many friends and neighbors.
Bud was born February 13, 1923, to Agnes J. (Vale) McCall and Edmond Vern McCall in Tacoma, Washington. He was raised in Tacoma, Seattle, and Bremerton, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle.
E.J. was proud to serve our country during World War II, in the Army Signal Corps in Burma and India. Bud retired as Supervisor from U.S. West Communications (now called Qwest) in 1979, after 38 years of service in various capacities. He was originally transferred to Port Angeles in 1947, to help prepare for converting the phone system from manual operations to a dial system.
Edmond married Adele J. Senz on September 5,1948. They were divorced in 1988.
Bud was an avid hiker and backpacker and was a member and past president of the Klahhane Hiking Club. He was also a member of the Elks Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, Sequim VFW,
Sequim Senior Center and loved to play bridge at the Sequim Senior Center Bridge Club and the Dominion Terrace Community Center.
Edmond is survived by a sister, Betty Loomis of Seattle, Wash.; daughters Janis (Leon) Dixon of Indianapolis, Ind., Susan (John) Lee of Port Angeles, Wash.; and sons Kevin and Patrick McCall, also of Port Angeles, Wash.; five grandchildren: Jennifer Schaeffer, Marcie McCall, Elesia (Mike) Hines, Micheal Dixon, and Patsy (John)
Samuelson; two great-grandchildren Emma McCall and Khloe
Samuelson; and his best friend and traveling companion, Jo Robb.
A potluck celebration of life will be held on February 13, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Dominion Terrace Community clubhouse, 1301 S. 3rd Ave., Sequim, Wash. Bring something yummy to eat and funny (or not) stories of Bud to share.
Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 E. 8th St., Port Angeles, WA 98362, to keep this very valuable organization available to help more people of Clallam County.
Cremation services were provided by Drennan-Ford Funeral and Crematory, Inc. of Port Angeles.


Earl J. Whiting
A memorial service is planned for Earl J. Whiting of Sequim, who died December 25th at the age of 84.
He was born on March 25, 1926 in Washougal, WA to Earle T. and Fay Clearwater Whiting. Earl graduated from Camas High School in 1944 and immediately joined the Army.  He served as a technical sergeant.
In 1946 he married Emagene Coe of Portland, OR. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Camas and began working for Crown Zellerbach Paper Company.  He continued to work there for 37 years, retiring in 1983 as production superintendent.  In that capacity, he served as consultant to Crown Zellerbach Mill Managers in St. Francisville LA, Wauna OR, Laja Chile and Crown Van Gelder (Velson Nord) Holland.
After retirement, he and Emagene made their home in Sequim.  Earl enjoyed living on the peninsula, hunting, fishing, and crabbing and, in the fall, gathering wild mushrooms.  He loved the mountains.
He died peacefully at home on Christmas day surrounded by his family. Survivors include his wife Emagene of Sequim; son Paul and wife Jordis Jensen Whiting of Vancouver, WA; daughter Jeanette Whiting Blum of Olympia; sister Virginia Whiting Garrod of Sequim; and grandson Aaron Blum of Marysville, WA.  His son David Whiting preceded him in death in 2009.
Memorial donations in Earl’s name may be made to Olympic Cancer Center in Sequim.


Ragnar A. Temte
Lieutenant, US Navy Retired
5 October 1921 - 10 December 2010
Ragnar was born in Nedre Eiker, Norway. In 1928, he, his parents, his two brothers and his sister emigrated from Norway to Everett, WA. They had little money and spoke no English. With hard work the family earned a living, learned English and became citizens.
In 1942,Ragnar joined the United States Navy. He proudly served as a career sailor and officer. Ragnar was a respected leader of men in combat and in life. He served aboard the USS Cahaba A082. Later he was assigned to the USS Valley Forge CV45. Ragnar reported aboard as Boatswain’s Mate First Class. Fifteen years and 3 months later, he left the Valley as Lt.j.g. On the USS Valley Forge, Ragnar made a world tour and visited his beloved Norway. The Valley became the first US aircraft carrier to circumnavigate the globe  (1947 - 1948) since the Great White Fleet cruised around the world in 1907 under the command of Adm. Dewey.
After the Valley, Ragnar served aboard the USS Passumpsic AO107 and was promoted to Lieutenant. Ragnar served 24 years of continuous sea duty. His only tour of shore duty was served at Naval Ammunition Depot Bangor, WA where he retired from the Navy in 1968. He served in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. After retirement from the Navy, Ragnar worked as a steamship agent in California until his retirement from his civilian career in 1977. He, his wife, Carolyn, and son, Patrick, then moved to Sequim.
In  2008,The Valley Forge Reunion club and Navy Region Northwest honored Ragnar for his dedication and service to the U. S. Navy and the Valley Forge. He was awarded a commemorative coin to recognize and honor his outstanding service and leadership.
Ragnar enjoyed square dancing, traveling and wine making. He dearly loved his cat, Maddielion.
In addition to his wife and son, he will be missed by brother, Jens of Marysville, WA, sister, Randi Hughes of Sioux Falls, SD, sister-in-law, Helen (Gunnar) of Seattle, sister-in-law, Twila Bivins of Ohio, many wonderful nieces and nephews and a host of marvelous friends especially Anne Won and family of Germany.
A memorial service will be held January 15 at 2 pm at St Luke’s Episcopal church in Sequim. Memorial donations may be made to Peninsula Friends of Animals Box 404 Sequim WA 98382.
