Nancy Ann Bedford
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim, for Sequim resident Nancy Ann Bedford.
Mrs. Bedford died July 8, 2011, at the age of 80.
She was born May 18, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to Margaret Jane Doyle and H. Harper Glezen.
While growing up, she lived in Chicago and Peoria, Ill.; St. Louis, Mo.; Topeka, Kan.; Portland, Ore., and Roswell, N.M.
She met her husband, Fred Grinnell Bedford, at Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church in Minneapolis, Minn. They were married in December 1951. The couple’s retirement years were spent in Sequim.
She was actively involved with Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim, PEO Chapter FY and Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Grinnell Bedford; sons and daughters-in-law Stephan and Kathleen Bedford and Andrew and Elizabeth Bedford of Portland, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Brad Landreth of Belfair; sisters and brother-in-law Betty Brittingham and Jane and Dick Orwoll; nine grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Charles J. ‘Trapper’ McDermott
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, for Sequim resident Charles J. “Trapper” McDermott. A potluck follows.
He died July 2, 2011, at the age of 71.
He was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Ketchum, Idaho, to Charles and Angeline Patrick McDermott. He married Janie Gibbons on Dec. 15, 1984, in Albuquerque, N.M.
He was a government trapper in Wyoming, an underground utility locator, heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also was a specialist third class 3-4, battery C, 351st AFA battalion with the United States National Guard.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he belonged to the IBEW, American Legion and Sequim Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Janie McDermott of Sequim; sons Colton McDermott of Woodland and Robert and Michael Eldridge of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters Codale Bearpaw of Bonney Lake; Autumn McDermott of Woodland; Megan Sylvester of Utah; Shannon Larson of Wyoming; Tonya Brady of Wyoming; and Jill Pingsterhaus of Germantown, Pa.; brothers and sisters-in-law Robert and Jill McDermott of Holly; Michael and Cindy McDermott of Hansville; and Thomas and Vicky McDermott of Thermopolis, Wyo.; sisters and brother-in-law Martina and Jesse Hansen of Bremerton; and Kathy Wilson of Randolph, Idaho; and 16 grandchildren.

Lorna I. Cockrill
No service was reported for Sequim resident Lorna I. Cockrill, who died July 2, 2011, at the age of 97.
She was born Nov. 21, 1913.

Andrew Staritzky
Andrew Staritzky passed away in Harbor View Hospital, Seattle, WA from anoxic encephalopathy. Andy’s family held a memorial service on June 21, 2011 in Littleton, Colorado, where Andy grew up.
Born and raised in Colorado, Andy traveled the U.S. after graduating from high school. He and his younger brother Gregory attended the School of Wooden Boat Building in Port Townsend in 1999/2000 where  Andrew worked at local organic farms. Andy always loved nature and the out-of-doors; and wherever he lived, he enjoyed learning more about the environment and passing that knowledge on to others.
Andy volunteered for, and took classes at the Carson Nature Center in Littleton, CO; the Marine Science Center in Port Townsend; and most recently, the Feiro Marine Life Center in Port Angeles.
Andy is survived by his mother, Jennie; two brothers, Scott and Gregory Staritzky; aunts, uncles and cousins in Colorado.

Jack T. Flaig
April 28, 1943 - June 23, 2011

    Jack passed peacefully at home surrounded by love on June 23, 2011 in Sequim, WA. He was loved and admired by family, countless friends and business acquaintances for his generosity of spirit, work ethic, and incredible smile.
    Jack is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Diane; children and grandchildren, Paul and Laura Keating/Ave and Viviane; Janet & Glen Giammalva/Joey and Emily; Jason and Cyndi Flaig/Casey and Randy; sister, Kim and Ralph Pregizer; and many extended family members. His parents, Ervin and Norma Flaig, preceded him in death.
    Jack was active in Boy Scouts of America as a child/teen and, as an adult, was a board member on the Boy Scouts of America Council. He served proudly in the US Air Force, 902 Radar SQ from 1964-1968, receiving an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant. Jack’s ashes will be scattered at sea by the US Coast Guard.
    Jack received his B.A. degree from Portland State University in 1976 and his M.B.A. degree from the University of Portland in 1990. He worked in healthcare administration for over 30 years and retired as CEO from Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in 2007.
    Jack enjoyed being a member of Rotary International for over 25 years and hosted several exchange students in his home. He was honored to be a member of the Masonic Lodge and in 1997, was a Past Master of the Intrepid Lodge No. 224 in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was also a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite and the Q, and spent 30 years enjoying Masonic activities.
    Jack was active in the communities where he lived and served on many planning committees and boards. He loved spending time with family, playing with his dog Rudy, walking on the beach, listening to music, reading and electronics. He will be deeply and forever missed, but his presence in our lives will always be.
    There will be a Memorial Service in Sequim, WA on Saturday, July 30th at 10 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge at 700 S. 5th Ave. The public is welcome.
    There will be a celebration of Life in Gresham, OR on Saturday, August 6th at 2 pm at a family residence at 7840 S.E. 252nd Ave. Call for directions, 503-666-5719.
