Lillian Johnson
A memorial service will be held for Sequim resident Lillian Johnson at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in the clubhouse at Clasen Cove, 890 N. Portside Way, Sequim.
Mrs. Johnson died Sept. 7, 2011, at the age of 85 after an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Harrisville, Utah, to Lizzie Richesen and Orson Rogers.
She attended Weber High School and Brigham Young University. She was married to Harold Johnson for 15 years and Alvin Neal for 42 years.
She lived for many years in California, where she worked as a public accountant, and in Ivins, Utah. After Mr. Neal died, she moved to Sequim.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Richard and Becky Johnson and Scott Johnson, all of Sequim; stepdaughter and son-in-law Susie and Rob Remkes of Merryhill, N.C.; brother Melvin Rogers of Pleasant View, Utah; sister Marilou Sorensen of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, daughter Marilyn Rose, stepson Jeffrey Rackham and grandson Troy Rose; brothers Lamar Rogers and Harold Rogers; and sisters Ella Barnum and Irene Kingsford.

 

 

Kathleen Adele Brough
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Lincoln Park, Port Angeles, for Port Angeles resident Kathleen Adele Brough, who died Aug. 24, 2011, at the age of 68.
She was born Feb. 22, 1943, in Everett to Earl Marion and Lorraine Wilcox Meyer. Her family moved to Port Angeles in 1951 and she attended local schools.
In 1955, while a student at Lincoln Grade School, she won the Michael Trebert Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution’s outstanding student award.
Her career was in business management for several companies in the state.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Laurie Anderson; daughters Tracy Ross and Susan Brown, all of Port Angeles; her mother Lorraine Ross; brother Mac Ross; and sister and brother-in-law Kristy and Tom Rameriz of Sequim; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Manwell; brother Richard Meyer; and father Earl Meyer.

 

 

James W. Quinn
Former Clallam County resident James W. Quinn died Sept. 22, 2011, at the age of 93.
He was born in 1918 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Fenton Carroll and Mary Ann White Quinn. He graduated from Garfield High School in Los Angeles in 1937 and married childhood sweetheart Mary Eleanor Day in 1941. She preceded him in death in 2007.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, and the Korean Conflict, leaving the Army with the rank of major.
He retired from his position as director of development for Marina del Rey in California and moved to the Olympic Peninsula in 1980, living in Clallam County from 1980-2010.
He is survived by sons William Quinn of Auburn, and Peter Quinn of Olympia; daughter Katherine Fite of Fresno, Calif.; and brother Raymond Quinn of Newport Beach, Calif.
His son Timothy Quinn, a well-known peninsula-area artist, preceded him in death in 2009.

 

 

Fred J. Ulf
A full obituary will appear at a later date for Port Angeles resident Fred J. Ulf, who died Sept. 17, 2011, at the age of 65.
He was born March 22, 1946.

Dana Yvonne ‘Vonnie’ McLean
A celebration of life will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 W. Washington St., Sequim, for Sequim resident Dana Yvonne “Vonnie” McLean.
The celebration includes a potluck.
Mrs. McLean died Sept. 17, 2011, at the age of 52 of cancer.
She was born Feb. 12, 1959, in Ruidoso, N.M., to Lee Roy and Bonnie Iris Staples Packard.

Jimmie LeRoy Jones
A memorial service was held for Port Angeles resident Jimmie LeRoy Jones, who died Sept. 21, 2011, at the age of 67 after more than 30 years with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born Jan 14, 1944, in Portland, Ore., to Howard and Catherine Howell Jones.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.      

 

 

Ronald David Moor
A memorial service will be held for Sequim resident Ronald David Moor at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Sequim, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way. Mr. Moor died Sept. 5, 2011, at the age of 74.
He was born June 24, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Sylva and Harold Moor. He married Kathryn Hauge. They moved to Williston, N.D., in 1977, where they owned a corner grocery store. He retired in 1999 from Wesley Homes Retirement Center in Des Moines, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor.
The couple later moved to Sequim, where they
joined First Baptist Church of Sequim and he became a greeter.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Shelley Cimenski of Royalton, Minn.; daughter Teri of Port Angeles; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey and brother Gary Moor.

 

 

Dakota Leach
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, for Sequim resident Dakota Leach. He died Sept. 25, 2011, at the age of 15.
He was born June 27, 1996.

Meredith Ann (Beckstead) Nelson
4/11/1931 - 9/20/2011

Meredith, 80, of Sequim, WA died
peacefully on September 20, 2011
after an 11-year battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Meredith was born on April 11, 1931 in Ogdensburg, NY.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Margaret Beckstead of Massena, NY, brothers David, Craig, Stuart, Brenton and sister Lorna.  One brother, Weymouth Beckstead, lives in Massena, NY.

Meredith is survived by her loving husband Jerry Nelson, daughters; Cynthia (Randy) Blank, Cary, IL; Valerie (Graeson) Parsons, Asotin, WA; Stephanie (Dave) Mantey, Washougal, WA and son David
(Tracy) Nelson, Snohomish, WA.  She has 9 grandchildren: Dana Blank, Mallorie Nelson, Lorna Mantey, Kyle Blank, Makenzie Parsons, Spencer Nelson, Erin Blank, Grant Parsons, and Sarah Mantey.

Meredith graduated from Massena High in 1949 and from Crouse
Irving School of Nursing, Syracuse, NY in 1952.  After marrying Jerry Nelson in 1958 in Massena, the family moved on to Pittsburgh, PA; West Covina, CA; Vancouver, WA and then to retirement in Sequim, WA in 1999.  Meredith was a member of the Eastern Star.

Her primary interest was total and absolute devotion to her family.  Other activities included church, boating, gardening, horseshoes, bowling and any other sport where she could beat and embarrass the men in her family. 

Memorial services will be held at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church in Sequim on Saturday, October 15 at 4:00pm.  The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made in Meredith Nelson’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1650 NW Naito Pkwy. #190, Portland, OR 97209.
