Capt. Donald ‘DJ’ Aites, USCG, Ret.
A memorial service will be held for Sequim resident Capt. Donald ‘DJ’ Aites, USCG, Ret., at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Sequim Elks Lodge 2642, 143 Port Williams Road.
He died Oct. 11, 2011, at the age of 73.
A full obituary will be published in a later edition. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Al and Irene Simpkins
Friends and family of Al and Irene Simpkins are invited to join in a celebration of their lives at an open house from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Sequim Prairie Garden Club building, at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.
Mrs. Simpkins passed away May 16, 2011, in Burlington. She was born April 15, 1917.
Mr. Simpkins preceded her in death Feb. 5, 2009. They were married Oct. 14, 1945.
The couple were involved in setting up the volunteer organization that watches over the New Dungeness Light Station.
Memorial contributions can be made to the New Dungeness Light Station Association, www.newdungenesslighthouse.com.

 

Steve Siebersma
A memorial service will be held at a later date for former Sequim resident Steve Siebersma, who died Oct. 12 at the age of 90 in Orange City, Iowa.

He was born Sept. 1, 1921, to Cornie and Maggie Scheeringa Siebersma.
He grew up on a farm near Carnes, Iowa.
He received his education at a nearby country school and joined the Army Air Force in 1942.
He married Lois Ruth Bronkema in 1944.
After World War II, the Siebersmas returned to northwest Iowa, where he was a grocer at ABC stores. They became the parents of five children.
He was a Legion member and fireman  and was a CASA representative for children. He also loved to sing, bowl, and go fishing.
In 1990 the couple moved to Sequim, where they owned and operated a bookstore.
They returned to Orange City in 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years; sons and daughters-in-law Stephen and Carmel of Omaha, Neb.; Marv and Greta of Sioux Center, Iowa; Dan and Diane of Ft. Pierre, S.D.; and Tim and Beth of Newcastle; daughter and son-in-law Pat and John Haveman of Hull, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law JR and Audrey Siebersma; sisters and brothers-in-law Hermina Muilenburg, Edna and Frank Katje, all of Orange City, Iowa, Sophia Van Zee of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Marilyn and Chet Faber of Escondio, Calif.; sister-in-law Nelvy Siebersma of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother-in-law Elmer Hofland of Orange City, Iowa, several stepbrothers and stepsisters; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two stepfathers; one brother, Stan Siebersma; two sisters, Lucille Vande Brake and Marjorie Hofland; and three brothers-in-law, Rich VanZee, Elmer Vande Brake and Nels Muilenburg.

 

 

Muriel Carriker
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave.,
Sequim, for Sequim resident Muriel Carriker.
She died Oct. 14, 2011, at the age of 81 of COPD. She was born June 10, 1930.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

 

Margaret E. Gibbs
Mrs. Margaret E. Gibbs, 96, of Sequim, passed away September 22, 2011, from respiratory arrest. She was born February 3, 1915, in St. Louis, Mo. to Lonnie and Ethel (Silverberg) Jackson.
Margaret married Finis R. Gibbs on September 24, 1941, in Dyersburg, Tenn. Mr. Gibbs preceded Margaret in death on November 18, 1981. Mrs. Gibbs came to the North Olympic Peninsula in 2000.
She was always a cheerful and happy person. Her joyful presence will be greatly missed!
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Robert Dodds; and grandchildren Tammy and Ronald Dodds.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim Dungeness Way, Sequim, on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 1:00 p.m.
