Sequim High School said goodbye to 32 seniors who played their final concert at the school’s Performing Arts Building on June 8.
Some of the evening’s musical selections included a Disney medley and “Pirates of the Caribbean” by the concert band, a John Williams tribute (“themes from “Jaws” and “Star Wars,” among others) by the wind ensemble, a version of Peanuts’ “Linus and Lucy” by the percussion group and the SHS jazz band’s version of “Caravan” — a 1930s piece made famous by Duke Ellington, rearranged by Chicago and re-rearranged by Mike Tomaro. The evening also saw a performance by the Sequim High flag team.
Band director Vern Fosket also handed out end-of-the-year awards to the following students: • John Philip Sousa — Anna LaBeaume • Director’s Award — Marley Iredale, Lindsey Moore • Louis Armstrong — Jin-hua (Niki) Liu • Woodie Herman — Fariss Ryan • Innovative Percussionist — Nick Bowden • Most Improved — Hope Haabala • Most Improved Percussion — Hallie Twiss • Most Improved Jazz Ensemble — Peter Harker • Richard Meyers Spirit of Band Scholarships — Bowden, Reed Gunstone
