Susan Heyer’s cooking class at Sequim High School offered a taste of the world to fellow classmates and school staff Friday.

Heyer said her students broke into groups, picked out a country or region, studied the food and ingredients and cooked up an array of delicious dishes to share.

Doug Dunbar, whose group cooked Navajo food, said they chose to bake salmon on a cedar plank as part of their food display.

Ben Clendening, Havilah Gautschi and Emily Hardwich chose Japan and made their own sushi rolls with rice, seaweed wrap and cooked salmon.

Each group displayed information about the country and the food, including a full menu and often a recipe or two. Student projects were evaluated by taste-testers on presentation, appearance, taste and knowledge of the food. Countries represented by Heyer’s students also included Mexico, India and Italy.
