Annie Christie, April

Christie is an independently motivated student. In the summer of 2009 she worked with Sequim Head Start as a teacher’s aide. Fluent in Spanish, she welcomed the opportunity to communicate with bilingual students.

In the summer of 2010 she worked as a surveyor at Railroad Bridge Park to help the Audubon Center gain grant money.

Christie’s passion for art covers a variety of forms — piano, writing music, writing poetry, painting and sketching.

Christie will be attending California Polytechnic State University, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., the Orfalea School of Business. Her plans for the future include working in business and marketing.

Rachel Hughes, May

Hughes has had several honors and advanced placement classes in preparation for her goal of becoming a medical doctor. Each summer she has attended a science program at a university.

She has spent the past five years taking private voice lessons, training to be a classical singer with the intention of continuing to sing as a lifelong hobby.

Hughes has spent the past four years on the SHS girls’ swim team, earning a varsity letter award each season.

This year Hughes is a student representative on the Sequim Education Foundation board of directors.

In the fall she will be attending Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., studying biology.
