Strong finishes at annual doubles tourney

The weather wasn't nearly as warm for the finals, but the action certainly was.
After 75 degree-plus conditions on Saturday, the temperatures dropped on Sunday for the final matches in the Sequim Doubles Tournament that saw classic battles for division titles, including a pair of three-set matches and another that went saw two tiebreakers.
Allison and Doug Hastings retained their Sequim Doubles Tennis crowns with a stirring, three-set win in the 9.0 mixed doubles final against the daughter-father combo of Justine and Mark Textor (5-7, 7-5, 7-5).
The elder Textor got his revenge against Doug Hastings, his fellow Sequim High tennis coach, in the men's 9.0 division. Textor and former SHS tennis star Kyle McKenzie topped Hastings and David Godfrey in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) to upset the reigning tourney champions.
Karen Chrisman and Ike Hall pulled off double wins last weekend. Chrisman teamed with Dave Gibbs to take the 8.0 mixed division crown, then paired with Fay Bruns for the women's 8.0 title.
Hall won titles with Wendy Drake (mixed 6.0 division) and Brett O'Connor (men's 7.0 division).
Tournament director Laurel Cripe said a total of 51 competitors made up the 38 teams in nine divisions.
The event, sponsored by the Peninsula Tennis Club, was hosted at Sequim High School's tennis courts.
