Some days you're the kicking foot; other days, you're the ball.

Despite some strong halves of play, Sequim's girls soccer squad is finding that finishing games isn't always easy in the Olympic League, evidenced in a pair of losses last week.

On Sept. 22, Kingston's Rachel Tafte scored three goals in her first game as a forward to help the Buccaneers top Sequim 5-1 in Sequim.

Down 2-0 after one half, Sequim's Anna LaBeaume found Kayla Hagberg for her first score of the season to close the gap. But Kingston's Renee Henderson scored eight minutes later on an unassisted score and Jaime Schultz made it 4-1 a few minutes later.

Two days later in Port Townsend, Sequim met a similar fate as Irina Lyons scored two goals and nearly added a third in a 4-0 Redskin win.

Up 1-0 at halftime, Port Townsend added to the lead nine minutes into the second half when Audrey McHugh launched a shot past Sequim keeper Rachel Dewees for a 2-0 lead.

Lyons added goals in the 50th and 77th minutes for the win. She nearly added a third with a few moments left in the contest; it would have given Lyons a hat trick in consecutive games, as she had three scores against North Mason last Tuesday.

Sequim's Lauren Bell, Kyla Hall, Hagberg and LaBeaume each had chances late in the game but the Redskin defense plugged up each Wolf advance toward the P.T. goal.

Sequim was slated to play at North Kitsap (Poulsbo) on Sept. 29 - results were unavailable at press time.

The Wolves play at Bremerton on Oct. 6 and host Port Angeles' Roughriders on Oct. 8.
