The competition only gets tougher from here.

Sequim capped the regular season last week, dropping a pair of Olympic League contests last week to Klahowya and Kingston.

Klahowya's Eagles, with four state-ranked grapplers in the fold, blasted the Wolves 68-9 on Jan. 20 in Sequim.

Clay Charlie, Sequim's 215-pounder, earned the Wolves' only mat win of the evening, winning a tight contest against Nick Dube, 9-4.

Sequim heavyweight Brian Bearden earned a forfeit win.

At 130 pounds, Winston Babb had a solid match against Ammon Jensen, falling 10-7.

The Eagles' Joe Sawyers, ranked No. 4 in the state by washingtonwrestlingreport.com, topped Mustang Riggins by technical fall, 18-2, at 140 pounds.

Neil Sell, the Eagles' No. 1-ranked grappler at 152 pounds, pinned Dakota Hinton in the second round.

"We had some opportunity at 119, 125, 130 and 135, but they capitalized on our mistakes," Sequim coach Len Borchers said. "Their lineup reminds me of our team from last year, but they are even stronger."

A day later, Sequim traveled to Kingston and fared better, falling 49-30.

After falling in their

matches to Klahowya,

Sequim's Hinton, Riggins, Kenny Griffith and Derek Fruin each earned wins on the mat.

The Wolves host a sub-district tourney on Feb. 6. Top grapplers advance to the district tournament on Feb. 13 at Washington High School in Tacoma, with wrestlers there aiming to advance to

the MatClassic state championships at the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 19-20.
