Divers lead Wolfpack attack

When high school divers begin their event in a regular season meet, both squads clear the pool and wait in subdued anticipation, dive after dive.
Looks like Sequim divers are garnering some deserved attention.
Sophomore Connor Christianson and freshman Austin Clement led a 10-member
Sequim contingent at the class 2A state meet in Federal Way last weekend, both earning spots on the medal stand for top-eight finishes.
Christianson, a sophomore, finished fifth overall with 237.85 points while
Clement, a freshman, was sixth with 230.6 points.
The pair helped Sequim earn seven team points and finish in a virtual tie for 15th place in the team standings.
Two other Sequim divers earned top-12 finishes, with freshman Zack Springer taking ninth (155.20 points) and junior Ezra Perkins taking 11th overall (148.4 points).
Brian Drake, a junior from Squalicum, won the diving title with 333.4 points.
Sequim's relay squads had a tougher time in their respective events, although both posted their best times of the season. In the 200-yard medley relay, Sequim's squad of Noe Calderon, Parker Steichen, Thomas Moores and Triston Cortani finished in 14th place overall with a 1:57.40 finish, about three-quarters of a second better than their seeding time.
Sequim's 200 free relay team of Calderon, Steichen, Moores and Kris Petersen also finished in 14th place, finishing in 1:43.12, nearly two seconds better than seeding.
Calderon, Sequim's lone individual event competitor, nearly met his season best in the 100 breaststroke and placed 16th.
Last season, Sequim also boasted of two state medalists (Perkins, Max Flock).
The 15th-place team finish was Sequim's best in school history.
Sehome won the overall 2A title while Interlake, the West Central District champion, was second.
