Sweep week for SHS soccer

The UW Huskies' basketball squad isn't the only team in purple and gold enjoying March.
Sequim High's boys soccer squad swept aside three foes in their opening week of play, topping Port Angeles, North Mason and Coupeville in successive fashion.
Nick Camporini's first-half score off a deflection broke a scoreless tie Saturday afternoon, helping the Wolves to a 1-0 nonleague
win at Coupeville.
Backup goalkeeper Byron Boots had seven saves to earn the shutout.
The Wolves (3-0) host Klahowya on March 25, their final game before spring break.
Sequim is back in action at home April 6 against Kingston, April 8 at Port Townsend and back at home on April 9 against the Forks Spartans in a nonleague game.
Wolves top Riders
Facing their rivals in green and white, Sequim got a game-winner from Zane Carey with two minutes left in a 2-1 win at Port Angeles on March 17.
After a scoreless first half, the Wolves got on the board at 64 minutes, when Daniel Servin dug the ball out of the right corner, floated a pass to Camporini, who found a streaking Jerry Azanza. He rocketed a shot past the freshman Port Angeles goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.
Port Angeles got the equalizer 10 minutes later when Svetlio Hurd chased down a turnover deep in Wolves' territory for a score past Sequim keeper John Textor.
The Roughriders looked to come away with a tie - or perhaps break a six-season, eight-game winless streak versus Sequim - until Austin Sanford chipped a 35-foot free kick to the far post, where Carey headed it in for the score and 2-1 win.
Bulldogs prove bullish
A day later on March 18, Sequim had an easier time in a 5-0 shutout at North Mason for the Wolves' first Olympic League victory - but not initially.
With just 16 players on their team and no junior varsity squad, the host Bulldogs looked to be an easy take for the defending Olympic League 2A champs. An early breakaway by North Mason's Colin Ralston, stopped only by a diving stop by Textor, helped wake up the Wolves, however.
Servin served up the first score when he found Camporini open for a blast. Servin added a goal of his own later in the half for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Martin Fonseca also found the net, his first score of the campaign, to open the second half while Servin and Evan Watkins added goals late. Textor recorded the shutout.
