The long wait is over.

Sequim's girls high school summer basketball squad picked up their first win in a couple of years with an overtime win in late June, knocking off Centralia 30-28 at a tournament in Chehalis.

Sequim's girls came back to clobber Overlake 20-7 the next day.

Members of the summer league team, coached by Stephanie Lewis and Evan Still, practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings this summer.

The team also is hosting a fundraiser for the Sequim Youth Basketball program at SkyRidge Golf Course (see below).

The summer program, featuring several varsity and junior varsity prep players, aims to help the Wolves stop a two-year losing streak for the high school team when the prep season starts in November.

SYB golf tourney set

The first of what organizers hope to be an annual golf tournament for Sequim Youth Basketball is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28 at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

Play format is four-person, 18-hole scramble.

Cost is $40 per person, with optional $20 cart rentals and $5 lunch.

Prizes are awarded for closest to pin, longest putt, most SHS spirit and overall winners.

Proceeds go to the Sequim Youth basketball girls' program, going toward tournament and team camp expenses.

There is no need to pre-register; simply show up at the course with one's team.

Sponsorship signs are available for $100 each.

To donate to the program or for more information, contact coach Stephanie Lewis at slewis@sequim.k12.wa.us.
