Bulldogs take bite out of top-ranked Pirates

Peninsula College's No. 1 NWAACC ranking didn't give the Pirates any help Saturday night, as division rival Bellevue knocked off P.C. 3-2 and moved to within one point of the league leaders.

Josh Strasser scored the game-winner with 12 minutes remaining and Bellevue held on for the win, Peninsula's second loss in three games.

Dustin Walsh and Tyler Hindmarch had scores for the Pirates in the defeat.

It was the first time this season the Pirates had given up more than two goals.

"This was a huge game for us and unfortunately we did not play well," P.C. coach Andrew Chapman said.

On Oct. 13, Peninsula and Olympic battled to a scoreless tie as P.C. keeper Jared Wilson recorded his fifth shutout of the season.

The Pirates outshot the host Rangers 13-7 but couldn't find the net for the second consecutive contest.

Thomas Bryan recorded the shutout for Olympic.

"We need to create more chances," Chapman said.

Peninsula is back on the pitch Oct. 23 in Tacoma and then hosts Highline on Oct. 27.
