Sequim boys top Renton at districts, will play Kingston Friday night

Corbin Webb scored 21 points and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line as the Sequim Wolves upended Renton Wednesday night in the opening round of the West Central District playoffs.
Sequim (16-8) will play third-seeded Kingston Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Foss High School in Tacoma.
The Wolves built a nine-point lead in the first quarter, but Renton stormed back behind 6-foot 5-inch center Darren Briggs to trim that lead to a point (26-25) by halftime.
With the game tied at 30-30 and less than four minutes in the third quarter, Sequim’s Nick Camporini led a fast break and found Webb for a basket, spurring a 12-3 run to close the quarter.
Sequim sophomore Tim Guan provided the exclamation point on the third quarter by banking in a 3-point that gave Sequim a 42-33 lead.
The Wolves saw that lead bulge to 12 points early in the fourth quarter before a feisty Renton squad battled back, closing the gap to seven points several times in the waning moments. The Indians (11-12), however, could get no closer than seven until the final seconds.
Camporini hit three first quarter 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Carter added 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Webb had a game-high six assists.
Briggs led Renton with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Sequim now faces a Kingston squad, the Olympic League champions, that they fell to twice in the regular season. The Buccaneers (17-4) topped Sequim 74-68 on Jan. 4 in Sequim, and 73-62 on Feb. 4 in Kingston.
The winner of Friday night’s Sequim/Kingston match-up advances to the district semi-finals at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Foss High School against either Fife or Port Angeles.
