Klahhane gymnasts compete for charity, championships

Klahhane gymnasts at ‘The Hop’
Klahhane level 5-7 gymnasts competed in the “At the Hop” Invitational Feb. 26 at Roach Gymnastics in Sumner.
In level 6-7, session one, Maya Wharton placed fourth all-around in the 10-11 age group, bringing home third-place medals on balance beam (8.05) and floor exercise (8.5).
Emily Giammalva of Sequim was fourth all-around in the 15-plus age group, claiming the second-place medal on vault with a score of 9.4.
Cassii Middlestead, competing in the level 6, age 10-and-younger division, scored 8.1 on balance beam, good for fourth place.
In the level 5 session, Sequim’s Danica Miller took first on vault (9.1 points), fourth on floor (8.4) and ninth all-around in the 11-year-old age group.
Haylee Ward (8.7 points) and Laura Rooney (8.2) also vaulted well, while Karli Gochnor led the group on balance beam with 8.3 points.

Athletes from Klahhane Gymnastics’ recreational optional team, including Sequim’s own Lillian Oden, Clarissa Preston and Adare McMinn, recently competed in two meets.

 

On Feb. 11-13 the team competed at the Bumbershoot Charity Choice Invitational at the Tacoma Convention Center, joining 1,500 other gymnasts competing on behalf of a charity of their choice.

Klahhane teammates, competing for the Cure JM (Juvenile Myositis) Foundation, placed fifth in the intermediate recreational optional competition.
