The story of this game? Simple.

“We got our butts kick-ed,” Dave Ditlefsen said.

The Sequim coach was candid after the Wolves got shut out by Viking T.J. Rei-tan, while North Kitsap hitters had twice as many runs as hits in a 10-0, five-inning whitewashing on March 23.

Steffen Jeffcoat and Alex Nettleton each hit home runs to pace the Viking offense. Jeffcoat finished with four RBIs.

Weston Royall and Nick Ramirez both went 1-for-2 for Sequim — the Wolves’ only hits of the afternoon.

Ditlefsen pointed out that with just two strikeouts the Wolves were hitting the ball, only right at Viking players.

“I thought the kids competed,” Ditlefsen said.

“You have to (shrug it off); it’s too early in the season to let a loss to the No. 1 team in the league shake your confidence.”

A March 25 contest against Klahowya was postponed because of poor weather.

Sequim was scheduled to take on Olympic on March 28 and Port Townsend on March 29 — results of the contests were unavailable at press time.

The Wolves are back in action April 4 at Kingston and host North Mason Bulldogs on April 5.

Sequim also hosts a nonleague game against Chimacum on April 7 and play at Sultan on April 9.
