Alex Barry of Sequim, shown here with his half-marathon age-group-winning prize at the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in early June, took home five top-three places at the Pacific Northwest U.S. track and field championships
Sequim's Alex Barry received five medals at the Pacific Northwest U.S. track and field championships, held on two dates: June 19 at Yelm High School for the pentathlon and June 25-26 at Sealth High School for other events.
At Yelm, Barry placed third in the pentathlon (a five-event competition consisting of high hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and 1,500-meter race).
In Seattle last Saturday, Barry placed third in both long jump and 200-meter hurdles events. On Sunday, he finished second in the 3,000-meter run with a 10:10.08 finish, losing in a close battle (less than two seconds) to Ahmon Afenegus of Vancouver.
Barry has qualified for the regional USA Track and Field track championships in Spokane next month.
