The Olympic Peninsula Eagles, a Sequim- and Port Townsend-based semi-pro football team, announced Thursday that Dave Snyder has taken over as head coach. 

Snyder replaces Mike McMahan, who stepped down earlier this week because of family issues. 

The Eagles (2-3) have four games remaining in their Western Washington Football Alliance season. 

Owner-general manager Don Purser said he expects the Eagles to shake off the team's slow start and contend for a playoff spot. 

The Eagles combined this season to play with the Kitsap County Bears. The Bears won the inaugural Pacific Coast League title last season, earned a No. 2 national ranking and played for a minor league national championship. 

Snyder is the original coach of the Bears. He coached the team the first three years before stepping down because of work conflicts. 

Snyder teaches and coaches at North Kitsap High School. He is the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the football team, an assistant coach for the girls basketball team and the head track and field coach. Snyder guided the North Kitsap girls to the Class 2A state track and field championship last month. 

The Eagles host the Tacoma Invaders on Saturday at Jefferson County Memorial Stadium in Port Townsend at 6 p.m. They host the the Snohomish County Thunder the following Saturday.
