NWAACC West Division standings

Highline          4-3-0 7-3-1
Tacoma  3-4-1 5-5-1
Olympic  2-5-1 3-7-1

This place looks familiar.

Peninsula College's men are headed back to the NWAACC playoffs for the eighth consecutive season after a 5-1 win at Wenatchee Valley on Oct. 13.

"We gave up a sloppy goal but besides that we played well," Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said. "We left some players at home because of injuries so we went pretty deep into our bench today."

Henrique Noujeimi opened the scoring at 13 minutes off an assist from P.C. keeper Angel Guerra. After a Wenatchee own goal, Irvin Somera found the net at 40 minutes for a 3-0 Peninsula lead.

Jose Garcia had a score for Wenatchee just before halftime, but Peninsula added scores from Matias Oliviera and Braiden Gundlach.

Peninsula out-shot the Knights 27-6.

Earlier in the week, the Pirates needed little time in taking control of a key West Division match-up, knocking off Olympic 5-0 at home on Oct. 10.
Morgan Lemus scored in the opening minute and Noujeimi found the net once in each half as keeper Guilherme Avelar recorded the shutout.

Aaron Jeffrey found Lemus who rocketed a shot past the Olympic goalkeeper from 45 yards out to open the scoring.

"That put Olympic down early and let us have the run of things," Chapman said.

Jeffrey notched another assist when he found Noujeimi for a score just seven minutes later.

Parker Vacura and Alex Martinez added scores in the second half. Martinez, Noujeimi and Richard Gallarde had assists in the victory.

Peninsula outshot Olympic 26-10 as Avelar had five saves.

"We played really well against our rivals," Chapman said.

The Pirates are at Bellevue tomorrow, Oct. 17, before hosting Highline on Oct. 20. Peninsula is at Tacoma on Oct. 27 and at Olympic on Oct. 31 before finishing the regular season Nov. 3 with a home date versus Bellevue.

The NWAACC playoffs start Nov. 7.

Martinez gets POW nod

For the second week in a row, Peninsula College men's soccer team has the NWAACC Player of the Week.

For week six, freshman forward Alex Martinez was named player of the week after scoring three goals against eighth-ranked Tacoma and scoring once — the game-winner — and adding an assist against third-ranked Walla Walla.â¨Pirate Daniel Gonzalez was named Player of the Week in week five.
