Momentum from a big win against Skagit Valley and a four-point first half lead wasn't enough for the Peninsula Pirates.

Everett outscored Peninsula by 12 in the second half as the Trojans topped the Pirates 79-71 on Jan. 16.

Alyssa Brazel and Erin Feeney scored 24 points each as Everett (3-1 in conference, 9-7 overall) defended their home court.

Taylor Larson led Peninsula (2-2, 7-7) with 22 points while Jasmine Yarde had 20 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, and Jesse Ellis added 20 points and eight rebounds.

"This was a poor defensive effort for the Pirates," P.C. coach Ali Crumb said. "We took a huge step forward last Saturday and and potentially one step backwards if we don't find ways to be more consistent and play better defense on the road."

After gaining a 44-40 lead by halftime, Peninsula missed all six 3-point tries and shot just 38 percent from the field in the second half.

"Everett played a great game and we look forward to a rematch at home in the next month or so," Crumb said.

Peninsula is back in action on the road at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Olympic (Bremerton).
