They say we're entitled, narcissistic, lacking work ethic, constantly needing affirmation of our overinflated self-esteem and we just won't leave the shelter of our parents and let them BE already! Well, I say I deserve a day off for my hard work, some recognition for it's superior quality and yes, Mom, I will be at dinner on Sunday.
I'm just trying to hold on to my youth, really. Aren't we all?

Today, I visited a journalism class at Olympic Peninsula Academy to share tips on how to interview.
Teacher Tim Wilkinson, who coincidently taught my debate, history and poetry classes in 10th grade, first invited me to talk to the class in September. During that visit I helped students identify potential stories in and around the Community School. This time, they needed some help in interview techniques.
The first thing I told them is to introduce themselves and explain why they are about to ask a bunch of questions. People can get nervous when strangers approach them with a barrage of questions.
After that, I gave some tips: If you don't know where to start begin with the who-what-when-where-why-how, ask open-ended questions, be conversational and friendly, and use a pencil if it's raining and you're interviewing outside. I thank my journalism instructor Carolyn Nielsen for that last tip. It's a real story-saver living here in the Northwest.
The students took turns interviewing each other and I was impressed with how well they caught on. It was a good refresher for me, too, and I learned some new things like what the Great Wolf Lodge is. Evidently, it's quite a fun place to spend your Winter Break.
