Sequims Wolves, struggling in the cellar of the Olympic League standings in 2008, came within a few seconds of knocking off defending Olympic League champ North Mason in just the second game of the 2009 season, settling for a 3-3 tie in Belfair on Sept. 10. We just jelled as a team, Sequim coach Enid Halewyn said. That (game) was the kind of game Id expect at the end of the season. Sequim (1-0-1) got first-half goals from Turi Anderson and Kyla Hall for a 2-0 halftime lead and looked to snag a 3-2 win when Anna LaBeaume scored in the 78th minute. But North Masons Kathryn Meyer scored off a loose ball in injury time to even the score. Bulldogs Emily Anderson and Tristan Stromberg also had goals. In 2008, North Mason (0-1-1) beat Sequim by scores of 4-1 and 5-3. Ill take the tie, Halewyn said. It was phenomenal. The tie came two days after topping Forks 2-0 to open the season. Hall scored both of Sequims goals before leaving the game with an illness, Halewyn said. Sequim plays at Port Angeles on Sept. 14. The Wolves tackle Klahowya at home on Sept. 17 and Kingston, also at home, on Sept. 22. |
