Sequim Gazette photo by Michael Dashiell Sequim Gazette staff Sequim Highs boys tennis squad improved to five wins in five matches with a 6-1 victory at North Kitsap on Monday afternoon. Reed Gunstone won in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Rex Olson while Mallory Maloney took down NKs No. 2 player, David Gerstenberger, in straight sets: 6-1 and 6-0. Wolf Joe Puntenney added a win in No. 3 singles. In doubles action, Byron Boots and Michael Lee outlasted a tough No. 1 Vikings team, Alex Olson and Jordan Seth, 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5). Sequims Waylon Lam and David Richards won in straight sets in No. 2 doubles. Steven Brertmayer and Chris Gracey got the only Viking match win Monday in the No. 3 doubles match. The Wolves (5-0) travel to Bremerton Sept. 25 and host Port Angeles Sept. 28. Wolves start perfect Sequims boys squad looks tough early on after topping Klahowya, Kingston and Port Townsend/Chimacum in successive fashion last week. Gunstone and Puntenney didnt drop a game in their singles victories while Lee and Maloney did the same in No. 1 doubles play as Sequim dropped Klahowya 7-0 on Sept. 14. Sequim got by Kingston 6-0 two days later, getting singles wins from Puntenney, Lee and Richards. Gunstone and Maloney captured a 6-0, 6-0 win against the Bucs Eric Reichert and Brady Sundquist in No. 1 doubles play while Byron Boots and Waylon Lam won in straight sets. One doubles match was not completed because of rain. On Sept. 18, the Wolves dropped one doubles match its first individual loss of the season but still routed the combined Chimacum-Port Townsend team 6-1. Gunstone, Maloney and Lee each earned singles wins while Puntenney and Richards stopped Ian Norris and Perry Pearsall, 6-2 and 6-3.
