YMCA, P.A. HOSTS VOLLEYBALL ACADEMYSequim Gazette staff The Clallam County YMCA hosts a volleyball academy for girls in grades 3-6. The emphasis of this academy will be on learning proper technique and is specifically designed for beginning and novice players. The academy is hosted at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave., starting Sept. 28 and going each Monday from 5-6:30 p.m. through Nov. 7. Four Saturday games are scheduled for Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7. Times and locations of games have not been announced. Cost is $45 per player for YMCA members, $55 for non-members. Special note to parents: The purpose of this academy is to build up the foundation for a quality girls recreation volleyball program, this will include training coaches. When academy organizers divide participants into teams after the first two practices, they need one parent for each team. Those interested in helping may indicate so by filling out a coaching packet. Parents who fill out this form will then be asked to attend the practices so that they can then learn along side the girls and take over the team when they have Saturday games. For more information, call camp organizer Christine Halberg at 504-2654 or 989-506-2263. |
