Lynda Mapes, the award-winning journalist who covered the discovery of Tse-whit-zen for the Seattle Times, is the speaker for the upcoming History Tales.

The program presented by the Clallam County Historical Society is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in the Port Angeles City Council Chamber, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles.

Mapes, who has more than 20 years experience in daily newspapers, covered the story of the graving yard controversy and the archaeological find.

To cover the story in "Breaking Ground," her book about discovering one of the largest and oldest Indian village sites ever found in the region, Mapes spent more than a year interviewing tribal members, archaeologists, historians, city and state officials, local residents and business leaders.
