Classic car show

Fairview Grange, 161 Lake Farm Road, Port Angeles, hosts a classic car show and barbecue starting at noon Saturday, May 15. The Grange will provide free hamburgers and hot dogs to everyone who brings a classic car, although the show will offer no prizes or trophies. Side dishes are sought. Call 461-9008.



Haiti benefit

Local musicians perform for a Haiti benefit at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Studio Bob,

118 1/2 E. Front St., Port Angeles.

Performers at the benefit include Abby Mae & the Homeschool Boys, Brad Warren, Larry Murante, Michael Rivers and

Scott Burnett.

Tickets cost $15 and are available at Port Book & News, Northwest Fudge and Itty Bitty Buzz in Port Angeles. Proceeds benefit Midwives for Haiti.



Cultivate reading

The North Olympic Library System's "Cultivate the Art of Reading" spring reading program for adults runs through May 24.

Post a review of a recent read or an old favorite on the Readers Review Wall. Contribute an original or favorite poem to the Poet-Tree to celebrate National Poetry Month. "What Are You Reading" review forms and "Poet-Tree Leaves" on which to share your contribution are at the library or online at www.nols.org. Reviews and poems will be available for everyone to enjoy through May 24 in all four library branches.

Book discussion

Reading PALS, the Port Angeles Library book discussion group, discusses "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The novel, told in flashback by nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski, recounts the wild and wonderful period he spent with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, a traveling circus he joined during the Great Depression.
