The outdoor season for the Sequim City Band continues with a performance on Sunday, June 19, at the bandstand at the James Center for the Performing Arts next to Carrie Blake Park. Opening the concert at 2 p.m. will be the Jazz in the Olympics Society Dixielanders, a talented youth jazz group.

The City Band will perform at 3 p.m., showcasing some familiar marches by John Phillip Sousa: “The Washington Post March” and “Hands Across the Sea” as well as some less familiar marches such as “Champ Clark’s Congress” by Will Huff. The band will play a famous march written by Kenneth J. Alford in 1918, “The Vanished Army (They Never Die).”

While the band is known for its expertise with marches, you also will enjoy its music from the opera “Evita”: “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Benny Goodman: The King of Swing (A medley),” “Rock, Rhythm and Blues,” and “Light Calvary Overture.” If you missed the last concert, the band is playing a repeat of “Tailspin!” a 2010 piece composed by Rob Romeyn. Bring those sunglasses, lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy this concert that promises to give you a little bit of everything.

Weekly practices are held from 7-9 p.m. Mondays at the James Center for the Performing Arts in the Swisher Rehearsal Hall at 563 N. Rhodefer Road. Membership is open to all musicians upon approval of the director, Sanford Feibus, 683-2546. Visit the website at www.sequimcityband.org.
