The local Fleet Reserve Association Branch is a veterans organization that is available to help veterans from any branch of service. The office in Port Angeles is moving to 127 E. First St. across from the Lincoln Theater and next to the Naval Elks Lodge.

This office is open by appointment only. Call Tom Flanik at 477-4077 to make an appointment at either the Sequim or Port Angeles office.

Jake Fish will be in the Port Angeles office and Tom will be in the Sequim office. He can help you file for the VA online.

Tom wants veterans eligible for VA care to use the VA clinic in Port Angeles if possible. This clinic is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and is at 1005 Georgiana St., one block west of Olympic Medical Center; call 565-9330.

Currently there is one part-time doctor. They will be adding another part-time doctor at the end of March.

There is no appointment needed for blood draws, just go in and take a number. If you need to have a blood draw for an appointment at the VA Hospital in Seattle or American Lake, just make sure your doctor gives you a lab number or calls it in prior to your visit. Make sure your lab draw is at least three working days prior to your appointment in Seattle or American Lake.

DAR hosts tea

The Michael Trebert Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, hosts its George Washington Tea at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. The Sons of the American Revolution will present and post the colors followed by DAR awards for Community Service, American History Essay Contest, Conservation and NJROTC. The wearing of period costumes is encouraged.

For more information, e-mail Regent Joyce Stroeher at n7jpw@juno.com.

Hear the Voices

Voices For Veterans holds its first stand-down for 2013 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Forks Elks Lodge.

Historically, the Forks event has been a tremendous opportunity to reach out to the West End veterans. There will be many service providers present along with a hot breakfast and lunch and a clothing “store.”

If you can donate money, full-size personal hygiene items, easily portable snack food (nuts, fruit leather, cracker packs), gently used coats or if you have questions, contact me at 683-6419.

Clallam veterans earn their stars

The SeaTac USO has honored the Clallam County Veterans Association and the Korean War Veterans with ceramic stars on a wall at the USO honoring them for donating over $500 toward hot dogs and buns for the troops and their families passing through the USO. One month’s supply of hot dogs and buns is $60. If you could sponsor a month, contact Jerry Rettela at eletteor@MSN.com.
