There's something new for area residents wanting to be more environmentally friendly at their home or office.

Built Green(r) Clallam County recently released its directory of local "green" goods and services. The pamphlets are on display in local businesses including Thomas Building Center, Designed for Living, U-Build-It and Everwarm Hearth & Home.

The directory contains information on builders, retailers and energy efficient, sustainable and healthy products including windows, counter tops, flooring, paint, insulation, compost and organic fertilizers and services of heating contractors, green real estate agents, woodworkers, architects, mortgage lenders, excavators, printers, plumbers, legal services and socially responsible investment advisors. Built Green has 44 members that provide 78 categories of goods and services to the North Olympic Peninsula.

The information is presented in a display case near the front of the stores. The cases were designed and constructed by Tim Branham's Port Angeles High School woodworking class.

Two locally created checklists are available - a single home checklist and a developer's checklist. Each offers a menu of choices to aid the building community to meet the growing demand for healthier homes with softer environmental footprints. Checklist guides for architects, engineers, excavators and subcontractors also are available.

The directory includes a Web directory for information on sustainable building and living. The information also is available online at www.npba.info - click Built Green.

Built Green Clallam County is funded through grants from the Washington State Department of Ecology. The funding supports community and professional outreach and education to encourage better building practices that contribute to healthier citizens and improved air and water quality.
