Randal Roorda, 47, of Sequim, was sentenced June 17 to $1,300 in fines and 90 days in jail with credit for time served for the charges of assault in violation of a protection order, unlawful imprisonment, harassment, malicious mischief in the third degree and interfering with a domestic violence report.

Roorda pleaded guilty to the crimes and will go through outpatient treatment and stay within the state Department of Corrections’ community custody program for 24 months.

On April 28, Sequim Police and Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 800 block of East Blair Avenue in Sequim due to a domestic violence report. Roorda’s fiancée at the time, who had a no-contact order against Roorda, made the call.

She reported that he punched her and threw her about the house. Police reports indicate he threatened her life while holding her down and would not allow her to dial 9-1-1 or leave the residence.

The woman escaped when Roorda allegedly left the house to buy liquor. After his return and after police responded to the scene, he reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence. While inside, Roorda allegedly damaged the woman’s personal property.

There are two valid domestic violence no-contact orders in place to protect the woman from Roorda.

Law enforcement surrounded the single-story house after Roorda locked and blocked the doorway. A negotiator spoke with Roorda for about two hours, trying to coax him out of the home.

After hours of being locked inside the home, Roorda abruptly stopped communicating. Officers heard more noise from the residence, believed he was further barricading the home and made the decision to go in.

Roorda reportedly was overwhelmed by officers but resisted arrest. A Taser was deployed and officers were able to subdue him. He went to the hospital to be treated for a possibly lethal blood alcohol concentration before going to jail.
