As predicted, the sixth annual Harvest of Hope Winemaker's Gala hosted by the Olympic Medical Center Foundation in conjunction with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance on Oct. 11 was a sold-out event.

In an effort to raise funds for the Thomas Family Cancer Center at Olympic Medical Center, 200 community members gathered to enjoy "A Night in Tuscany," which was the theme of the evening.

Initial estimates indicate more than $100,000 was raised through ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and live auction items. There were some highly sought items this year and bidding was both spirited and competitive. One lucky couple went home with four tickets to the live broadcast of the "American Idol" show in Los Angeles for $3,200. Yet another is going to enjoy a game of choice at the World Series for $500. Local retired chef Andre Mercier donated a private dinner for eight and this item was sold twice for an amazing $2,500 each.

Chairwoman Sara Maloney said she was delighted with the event again this year. "We are so fortunate to live in such a generous community," Maloney said.

Cancer patient Geoff Hollister shared his journey and thoughts with attendees in an effort to encourage them to support this year's chosen "Fund a Need" item - an Integrative Medicine Program.

"I feel very excited that due to the $20,100 raised under our 'Fund a Need' portion of the evening we will be able to bring an Integrative Medicine Program to our community which will benefit our patients enormously as they fight cancer," Maloney said.

Guests dined on a fabulous four-course dinner prepared by Steve Little of the Dockside Grill on Sequim Bay. The featured winery Barnard Griffin provided premium wines to complement the dinner. Todd Ortloff of KONP was the evening's master of ceremonies.
