Sequim High School's sophomores are hoping to get some funds for their class at an Associated Student Body spaghetti feed.
The fundraiser is set for 5-7:30 p.m. Dec. 14, at Jean's Deli, 134 S. Second Ave. Tickets are by donation.

First Teacher times
The First Teacher program hosts several weekly programs for family members of preschool children and expecting parents.
On Mondays, First Teacher hosts Story Time starting at 10 a.m. On Dec. 15, Elna Kawal, community advocate for education and former Sequim school board member, is the guest reader.
First Teacher also hosts special Friday morning events from 10-11:30 a.m. On Dec. 12, Bonnie Schmidt from Music Together in Port Angeles performs an interactive demonstration. On Dec. 19, the classroom is set aside for quiet, relaxing time, when parents can take a break from their holiday schedules and enjoy some light refreshments while the children play in the activity room.
First Teacher also hosts "Parenting Workshop: The Incredible Years." This begins Jan. 5 and is a featured activity in the room from 5-8 p.m. each Monday and Thursday for 10 total sessions. Preregistration is required.
Finally, a "Ready! For Kindergarten" class is slated for 6-8 p.m. Jan. 27 in the First Teacher room. This is a three-session class for parents of 2- and 4-year-olds. Preregistration is required.
The First Teacher classroom is in Room 4W, Sequim Community School, 220 W. Alder St. The room is closed from Dec. 22-Jan. 5 for winter break.

The 17th-annual Breakfast With Santa is scheduled for 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Breakfast includes waffles, scrambled eggs, ham, juice and coffee. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children.
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive by fire truck at 8:30 a.m. and are available for pictures.
All proceeds go to Citizens for Sequim Schools.
Band concert scheduled
The Sequim High School bands host their winter concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Performing Arts Building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
The concert is free to the public; however, donations are accepted.
All five groups of the band program are scheduled to play selections.

PEAK group gains grant
The PEAK Leadership Program, a North Olympic Peninsula leadership development program serving Clallam and Jefferson counties, recently was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Puget Sound Energy Foundation.
The grant is to be directed toward educational, scientific, literary or other charitable purposes.
The PEAK Leadership Program is a joint initiative developed in partnership with Peninsula College and EDC-Team Jefferson. It is a 10-month, annual community leadership program for up to 16 emerging leaders who reside in Clallam and Jefferson counties. Danille Turissini, PEAK's project coordinator, in conjunction with the Peninsula College Foundation, applied to the Puget Sound Energy Foundation for the grant for the purpose of equipping leaders on all levels who work to strengthen area communities and serve as catalysts to effectively deal with the many complex challenges facing our region.

P.C. awards $2,000
to classified staffers
The Peninsula College Foundation announced the 2008 recipients of the Classified Staff award.
This annual award, established in 2006, is available to members of the college's classified staff on a competitive basis.
• Micki McNeil, human resources consultant. The grant helps fund cross-cultural communication training for faculty and staff by Eric Davis to increase diversity awareness, maximize student access, promote pluralism and cultural enrichment on campus,
• Cindy Guoan, continuing education coordinator. The grant helps fund training to develop skills in Web design, team building, communication and online business strategies with a Web presence for the Port Townsend extension site consistent with the college's mission,
• Nikki Brown, plant communications coordinator. The grant funds attendance for a Leadership Mastery course offered in February 2009. The project will provide training in team leadership, relationship building and interpersonal influence consistent with professional development goals.
