Corey Borden, of Sequim, is accused of posing as a drug dealer, stealing a police informant's money and going to another alleged drug distributor and buying a narcotic.
On Feb. 7, Sequim Police used a confidential informant to investigate allegations that Borden was selling Oxycodone, a highly addictive pain relief medication.
The informant reportedly drove up next to Borden's car in a parking area off Old Olympic Highway, passed money through an open window and watched as Borden, 19, sped off without providing the 80-milligram pill.
Officers located Borden a couple of hours later, arrested him and searched his vehicle. According to court reports, officers found a set of brass knuckles and a knife.
"The officers determined the suspect had spent the money stolen from the informant on drugs for himself," said Crime Prevention Officer Maris Turner.
Although officers first were investigating Borden only, his alleged theft and subsequent drug run led officers to a second individual, Melinda Marie Thurman, of Sequim.
Officers responded to Thurman's residence with a search warrant and reportedly found individually packaged bags of marijuana, electronic scales, smoking devices and one 80-miligram Oxycodone pill.
Officers also found their confidential informant's stolen money in the pants pocket of Thurman, 22.
"The two cases are not connected other than that Borden's arrest led to the report that the stolen money had been used to purchase drugs from Thurman," Turner said.
Borden faces one count of first-degree theft, delivery of marijuana or any non-narcotic controlled substance and the unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon.
Thurman faces one count of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana and delivery of a controlled substance.
Both have made a first appearance in Clallam County Superior Court on the felony charges and both were released without bail. They both face Feb. 20 arraignments, where they may enter a plea and receive a trial schedule.
