Two hearings set on bus routes

The second of three public hearings on proposed changes to three Clallam Transit System routes - two in Sequim and one in Forks - is set for 1 p.m. May 18 at the OlyCAP Community Center, 91 Maple Ave. in Forks.
The third public hearing is set for 1 p.m. June 15 at CTS headquarters, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd. The first public hearing was held Monday in Sequim.
The affected routes are Route 52 Diamond Point, Route 40 Sequim Shuttle and Route 17 Forks.
CTS General Manager Terry Weed said the goal is to make a decision in time to change routes and schedules on Sept. 6.
"It is entirely possible that the board could act in June or wait until July, depending upon the public comment we receive.
"These changes all are being done with a budget-neutral philosophy, trying to make the routes more efficient. We're not in a position to add anything," Weed said.
_ Route 40 Sequim Shuttle provides all-day service throughout the city, serving the Sequim Transit Center, downtown, senior center, Bell Creek Plaza, Sequim High School, library, Sequim Medical Center and grocery stores.
Proposed changes to Route 40 Sequim Shuttle are extending service to the western shopping area and eastern residential area, operating buses in both directions instead of a one-way loop and operating buses hourly in both directions. The shuttle now goes in one direction, every half hour.
_ Route 52 Diamond Point
provides three round trips between the Sequim Transit Center and Diamond Point via John Wayne Marina, U.S. Highway 101,
7 Cedars Casino, Jamestown Tribal Center and Blyn.
Proposed changes are discontinuing service beyond Industrial Drive and on West Sequim Bay Road and adding service via Rhododendron Drive.
_ Route 17 Forks provides all-day service throughout the city of Forks. It makes a one-way loop serving the Forks Transit Center, downtown, hospital and several residential areas.
Proposed changes are adjusting the south segment to serve a new hospital stop and providing service in both directions.
