NorthWest Women's Chorale's spring concert "Water Music" opens at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim, with a second performance at 7 p.m., Monday, April 20, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

A donation of $7 is suggested.

Signers will translate both performances.

Under the direction of Joy A. Lingerfelt, the chorale presents "Shiver Me Timbers," a medley of sea songs and shanties arranged by nationally known Sequim pianist and composer Linda Dowdell.

Dowdell and her husband, Ron Thomson, recently moved from New York City where she was a member of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop, developing new works as a composer, musical director and vocal coach.

She has roots in jazz and classical music as well, having toured the world as musical director of Mikhail Barysh-nikov's White Oak Dance Project and the Mark Morris Dance Group.

The chorale also sings a cantata "Lessons from the Sea," based on Anne Morrow Lindbergh's book, "Gift from the Sea." Karen Hanan, executive director of Arts Northwest and host of ArtBeat on KONP, narrates the piece that features solos by chorale members Mallory Jacobs and Judith Moilanen.

The program includes songs by Claude Debussy and Giovanni Martini and a song titled "Song of Perfect Propriety." Famed wit Dorothy Parker penned the title poem for that song.
