"OK everybody, get your cheesey smiles on," said Irrigation Festival chairman Joe Borden to the more than 365 people gathered Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue for the 2009 Sequim Community Photo.

Then with a click of the shutter by photographer Ernst-Ulrich Schafer, who was suspended in a bucket truck, the moment was captured for posterity - and the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce's coffers.

"It was a huge success. Our thanks to all who participated," said Vickie Maples, the chamber's executive director.

"We want to express our thanks as well to the Sequim City Council and staff for making it possible to use the intersection for the photo and to Jean Wyatt and her committee for their efforts," she said.

Maples said only a limited number of the $15 Community Photo posters are being printed but anyone interested still can pre-order by visiting the Visitor Information Center.

The posters will be available for pick up at several locations during the Irrigation Festival.

This year's poster will feature the names of everyone who signed in, said Wyatt, Irrigation Festival marketing coordinator.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Washington Street was closed between Second and Sunnyside avenues, and Sequim Avenue was closed between Spruce and Maple streets. Bell and Cedar streets also were blocked off.

The crowd appeared to be settled in just as Borden said, "OK, come to me a little."

Everyone scooted forward a bit until Schafer told them, "Either back up or move in. If I can't see your face, you won't be in the photograph."

Once everyone was in place, Borden announced, "OK, you've got 10 minutes to wait. We said 3 p.m."

But when he asked the crowd just before the shot, "It's been fun?" he received an enthusiastic "Yeah!"
