Cats beware: The Irrigation Festival will be full of dog-related events.

The Sequim Dog Park Pals, volunteers who established and maintain the off-leash dog park at Carrie Blake Park, 202 Blake Ave., will be leading a number of events geared toward owners and their dogs.

The first event, the "Woof and Walk" 1-mile benefit walk, begins at 11 a.m. May 2, around Carrie Blake Park's water reuse area. Cost is $25 with an event T-shirt and raffle ticket provided.

A prize will be awarded for the best costumed dog.

Throughout the day, for a $15 donation per stone, volunteers will help participants make stepping

stones that include their dog's paw print. Materials will be provided.

A vaccination clinic for dogs will be held from 1-3 p.m. Costs are: rabies $15; one-year distemper combination $19.50; three-year distemper combo $23.50; bordetella yearly injection $17.

Twenty-five percent of the costs will be returned to Sequim Dog Park Pals.

A raffle will be ongoing through the morning with more than 30 donated gift certificates and prizes. Tickets cost $1, seven for $5, 15 for $10 and 30 for $20.

"We're just trying to create more events for dog lovers," said Chuck Rundle, treasurer of Sequim Dog Park Pals.

The park volunteers will march in the Irrigation Festival Grand Parade on May 9. Contact Marci Mathieu at 683-1515 to be a part of the group.

Dog Park Pals memberships cost $10 and $20. Contact Rundle at 477-4208 or chuck@nu-west.com for details.

The dog park opened in April 2007. The volunteers maintain the dog park by spreading gravel and picking up waste. The city of Sequim donated the land and mows and irrigates

the property.

All donations will go toward future projects at the park, such as more garbage cans, waste removal stations and a light post.
