Damiana's Best Cellars changed its certification from a tavern license to a restaurant license.

Now, the quaint wine bar includes a bistro. The legal switch allows minors to join their parents for a bite to eat.

Sandwiches, salads, Mediterranean cheese platters, seasonal fruit and "tapas," small Spanish dishes traditionally served with drinks at a bar, are available.

The wine bar and bistro is similar to those found in downtown Seattle, said owner Damiana Magner, a trendy style of dining that's new to Sequim.

"It will catch on eventually," Magner said.

"I know people will come in, see it and love it."

The business celebrated its one-year anniversary the beginning of May.

"It's gone OK," Magner said about the first year.

"It hasn't been the best but it's been good for a new business in a difficult economic time."

Magner was able to employ two people during the past 12 months and showed profit on the books - a bonus in her eyes.

Armed with an off-

premise license, Magner is fully certified to serve wine at public and private events. She also holds private parties, meetings and other gatherings at the store by reservation.

Wine is available for sale by the glass, by the bottle and in bulk. Beer is also on hand.

Seventeen wines are on the menu by the glass, an extensive collection, according to Magner, that changes every month or two.

A tasting is held every other Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

Wine and art enthusiasts are invited to stop by during the First Friday Art Walks. Magdalena Bassett, of Sequim, has artwork on display.

Live music is scheduled from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the summer. Admission is free.
