Readers Theatre gives scholarships

Readers Theatre Plus presented two high school seniors with $700 scholarships last week.
Katie Byrne Moriarty, of Port Angeles, and Rowan Kaufman of Sequim, accepted their awards with smiles on June 3.
The recipients were chosen for their academic excellence, extracurricular diversity and intention to major in an arts-related field.
Readers Theatre Plus board members Carol Swarbrick Dries, Jim Dries and Shawn Dawson presented Moriarty with the scholarship during an art class taught by Jenny Steelquist. Later that evening, the three gave Kaufman her grant during the Sequim High School scholarship awards ceremony held in the auditorium.
On behalf of the Sequim Education Foundation, Albert Friess introduced the Readers Theatre Plus board, spoke about the generosity of the community and expressed gratitude to the nonprofit group for making its scholarship launch a success.
