Sorensen says signs vandalized

Sue Sorensen, a board commissioner for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, reported last week that several of her campaign signs were vandalized.

Sorensen said she had posted a dozen signs on Sept. 15. Four days later, she said, eight of those signs were either knocked over or in nearby bushes.

"It was not from the wind," Sorensen wrote in an e-mail to the Gazette. "They were not leaning in the direction that the wind would displace them and

I had firmly pounded them into the ground."

Last week, Sorensen noticed that a campaign sign at Sequim-Dungeness Way and Prairie Street was missing.

"I filed a report with the Sequim Police," Sorensen wrote. "As far as I can tell, all the other signs are still in place."

Sorensen was elected to the SARC board of commissioners in 2002 and served several years at the board president.

This is the second reported violation of campaign sign disturbances in the 2009 fall campaign. Ted Miller, a city council challenger to former mayor Walt Schubert, reported theft or destruction of his campaign signs earlier this month.

He has offered a $1,000 reward for information on whomever vandalized his signs on at least two occasions.
