Dorothea Hover-Kramer has been elected to the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic board of directors. She has been a psychotherapist for more than 30 years and a clinical nurse specialist. She will chair the Wellness Committee.

Hover-Kramer said she joined the clinic's Wellness Committee in the summer to help people learn from their pain.

"This concept aligned directly with the clinic's idea of teaching people skills to manage their state of health and wellness," she said.

Also, the clinic has been awarded a state grant to promote affordable access to health care services to residents in rural Washington. The project, Diabetes Education for Prevention and Self Management for Uninsured Patients, will receive nearly $19,000 a year for two years. The clinic also received funding from a Sequim Community Foundation grant of $2,500 and is negotiating a $10,000 match challenge from a private donor.

The Diabetes Education Project expands work now done by the clinic's Chronic Healthcare Clinic and the Wellness Education Program. It will emphasize self-care through education and self-management strategies.
