Both the son and mother-in-law of a Sequim police officer were killed Sunday afternoon in a two-car collision at Power Plant Road and State Highway 112 west of Port Angeles.

A Vancouver, Wash. woman also involved in the wreck was airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center Sunday night in critical condition.

Mary Wyman, 60, and six-year-old Theodin Nelson, both of Port Angeles, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Wyman was the mother-in-law of Sequim police officer Darrell Nelson. Theodin was his son.

Darrell is the husband of Port Angeles City Council candidate Brooke Nelson. Brooke's father is longtime newspaper photographer Tom Thompson, who took the 1979 photograph of the Hood Canal Bridge sinking.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Wyman's Subaru Legacy was eastbound on State Highway 112 when it veered off the roadway to the right.

Then the Subaru came back onto the roadway, crossed into the westbound lane and rotated. It was struck on the driver's side by a Toyota Camry occupied by Joshua M. Dickens, 24, and Emily M. Dickens, 22, both of Vancouver, Wash.

They were taken to Olympic Medical Center with serious injuries. Then Emily Dickens' condition was changed to critical. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she was undergoing surgery Sunday night.
