A liquor license for a Twilight-themed restaurant and nightclub-type lounge is being applied for by the owners of Dazzled By Twilight in Forks.

The liquor license application is posted on the Olympia-based state Liquor Control Board’s Web site, with an application filing date of Oct. 19. The Web site states such application take 45-60 days to process.

Mayor Nedra Reed told the Forks City Council on Monday evening, Oct. 26 at the council's regular bi-weekly meeting that she has spoken to the owners of Dazzled By Twilight regarding the liquor permit application. She said the city is taking due diligence in reviewing the application and will send a letter to the state Liquor Control Board.

The application is for the Volterra Restaurant and Twilight Lounge. The application is being made by the Dazzled by Twilight LLC, by Dazzled By Twilight founder Annette Bruno-Root and her husband Tim Root, plus Sharon Root, Angela Deats and Jason Deats.

Volterra refers to a fictional vampire clan based in Italy who play a key role in author Stephenie Meyer’s mega-selling, Forks-set Twilight book series.

The Roots opened the Dazzled by Twilight gift and souvenir store in Forks about a year ago in the former Lloyd George jewelry shop. This summer the shop was moved a few doors south to the former location of the Fern Gallery shop. The couple are from Vancouver, WA. They also operate a Dazzled By Twilight tour company that takes fans to Twilight sites in Forks and LaPush for a fee.

The fee for a nightclub liquor license is $2,000. The license is described as one that allows the sale of spirits, beer and wine for on-premises consumption.

Janet Hughes, owner and operator of JT’s Sweet Stuffs in Forks, told the council she is objecting to the Dazzled By Twilight application. Her candy store, ice cream and lunch business is located across Forks Avenue from the Twilight Lounge.

Dazzled by Twilight is advertising a family-oriented Halloween party at the site of the proposed restaurant-bar on Halloween night. The company has held non-alcoholic beverage events at the site over the summer.

The restaurant-lounge was formerly known as the Vagabond, a well-known Forks bar run by a local logger. The Vagabond closed years ago.
